This is the sort of thing that belongs in the area of "urban legends" except that apparently it's true. In law school when we were studying products liability cases, we heard about a person who washed the family pet (a dog, I believe) and didn't have enough time to dry him completely. To ensure that the dog was dry, the pet owner who was apparently no rocket scientist put the dog in the microwave oven and turned it on (low, I presume). The dog exploded from the microwaves, the owner had a heart attack as a result of the shocking experience (no pun intended) and the owner sued the company that produced the oven for failing to include a warning about this sort of thing in the product manual. Some sort of strict liability in tort. I don't recall how the case came out. Yes, we americans are a litigious bunch. Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread.

A friend used to run the support department for a company that made fireplace implements and other things, including kerosene heaters.

Their #1 support call (usually threatening to sue) was from people complaining that their kerosene heater blew up after they filled it with gasoline, in spite of many brightly-colored warning labels on the box, in the manual, and on the product itself saying "DO NOT PUT GASOLINE IN THE KEROSENE HEATER" and "USING GASOLINE MAY CAUSE EXPLOSIONS" (and graphical images conveying the same message).

An awful lot of people are just stoopid.

The part of the story about the kid in the dryer that really rankles is at the end where it says "the child was frequently abused". <sigh>

I just hope that when the parents are sent to prison, they are both assigned to laundry detail and they get their just punishment. Disgusting!!!!

Once again, I have to shake my head in wonder. Why have kids if you can't love them? What's the point? What makes this even worse is that it isn't all that uncommon. This case just happened to hit the news.

deej, you have to stop drinking before you post. It was a washing machine. Not a dryer. So, your whole write up about the gasoline is misplaced.

Wasn't it back in the 1700s that the French held public beheadings....and it was viewed as a spectator sport?

Pretty cruel if you asked me. (Oh crap I shouldn't of said that, I'm over-generalizing)
