I saw this movie today, and all I have to say is that I've never seen so much gorgeous beefcake in my life. My balls were aching the whole movie long.

Supposedly this is one of the worst films to hit theaters in some time. ALthough, their other movie, The 300, was very very very very dumb yet undeniably entertaining. I don't know, for eye candy isn't it more satisfying simply to slip in one of Kristen Bjorn's 40+ titles or hit the gay beach in Laguna on a weekend between Memorial and Labor days? Movies have become SO expensive.

It's not just the expense. The entire movie-going experience, which once was fun, has become a nightmare. Cell phones ringing, gallon tubs of popcorn strewn throughout the aisles, bright lights flashing from people texting, listening to the guy behind you chomp on his nachos with his mouth open, people having conversations in full voice as if they are in their own living rooms, and on and on. I guess it's just another example of our collapsing societal manners.

I am SOOOOO with Spanky on this one> I hate going to the movies mostly because of the ignorance and appallingly inconsiderate behavior of the general public> Talking, cell phones, seemingly needing to have a constant bucket of food and sodas to noisily consume like they would perish of malnutrition otherwise> if you want to behave like that, rent a dvd and stay home and be an asshole to your heart's content. It is even spreading to theater now-people constantly texting and checking their cellphones mid-performance with no regard for how distracting that is for other members of the audience. GRRRR!!!!

The older I get, the more I realize that my parents were right about a lot of things. How to behave in public was one of those things.

To bad our parents didn't have the internet, they might have been able to teach us all how to behave here also.!

Horny, the movies you go to, all you can hear is Masturbating and slurping. (sorry couldnt resist)

I stopped attending movie theatres about 4 years ago -- I could not stand the mass of rude, egotistical, obnoxious behavior all around me. It is easier (and much cheaper) to simply watch a good film I rent on my home TV or video (of course WITH a nice friend would make it ideal) and simply sit in my own comfortable chair without all the burping, slurping, chatting, texting, phoning etc... that distract me from enjoying the experience of the actual film. And yes, I agree with others here -- our parents had something very right about public behavior. Too bad it cannot be recovered so easily.

What I've found works better than anything else is to go in the afternoon, especially if the movie is coming to the end of its run. Usually, there are just a few old ladies (don't sit near them; they talk), couples, and the occasional friendless man or woman trying to while away an afternoon. Often there are no more than five other people there. Caveat: I'm retired, so I have this option that many don't have . . . yet.

The only time I'll go to a movie theater is when I can go mid-day on a weekday when school is in session. I saw "Moneyball" its first week at 1pm on a Tuesday and there were a total of five people in the theater.

The other benefit of going to one of the first showings of the day is the popcorn is freshly popped.

I'm loving these responses. I thought I was the only one who felt this way - most of my movie friends tell me to chill out and stop being such a cranky old bastard. It's a comfort to know there are so many other old cranky bastards out there with me!

I'm a big fan of matinees too - and they're cheaper! But I haven't found the popcorn any better - and I don't think many multiplexes pop their corn locally anymore. :(

Have you *read* some of the posts around here?!?!?!? There's plenty of old cranky bastards to go around. ;)

I skip the popcorn unless I see it being popped. It's the only time I eat popcorn at all. If I time it right, they hold the bag up to catch the kernels as they fly out of the popper and it never hits the bottom of the machine.

I've learned to schedule Tuesday afternoon meetings every now and then so I can catch a film at the theater 5 minutes from my office.

I'll definitely make my own decision on this one at a Minimal Crowd Matinee! It actually looks more visually impressive than 300!

I am sure "Thesius" in 3D is a Hunk to behold! Looks like Mikey Rourke will now get all the Nasty Tyrant Roles that the Late Great Dennis Hooper played!

Have enjoyed a laugh at many of the responses. I used to take my elderly mother to the movies at early afternoon matinees and recall the place was virtually empty -- but like one poster said, I was wikth the old lady who talked a lot ;-) so it was hard to hear the dialogue.

Unfortunately I still am at a 9-5 job and commute to work so afternoon matinees are something to look forward to down the line. I do a lot of downloading now from iTunes (especially TV programs I like) and this also is a help, but for the movies, I have to usually wait 2 or 3 months unless it is a bomb.
