Get Ready for the Rapture!!

I usually stay away from political topics on this board. However, I just read this article by Bill Moyer. Perhaps the best way to summarize his position is with this quote:

 

"...And if you like God in government, get ready for the Rapture. These folks don't even mind you referring to the GOP as the party of God..."

I had never paid much attention to Moyers other than casually watching parts of his PBS specials. But, I never realized that he was so hard core left wing. Hmmm.

 

I am fairly conervative. So I take offense that he flat out lies about everything the GOP wants.

 

Especially offensive are the allegations that we want to tax the poor to help the rich. Please. The working poor pay no taxes yet get tax benefits from those of us who work. It's rich liberals like Moyers - who can afford to pay taxes - that want those of us who actually work to pay more. Go figure.

 

And the same old song about the environment. You know, I've seen President Bush several times. I have never seen him pouring arsenic into creeks and streams as his limo passes by. I guess I just don't look close enough!

I guess I qualify as one of those people you refer to as "working poor". I can assure you that I DO pay taxes and it affects me a whole lot more than the average American.

 

I have a "regular" job and also escort on the side. But, even with the two incomes I almost qualify for food stamps. I fall within that category of making too much for welfare benefits and hardly enough to survive.

 

How the hell can you say that the working poor pay no taxes?!?!?! I could live a comfortable life if I didn't pay taxes. I'd love to have a 25% increase in my "disposable" income. I seriously doubt that I'll ever live to collect social security so I consider that I'm getting little or no benefit for the taxes I pay. (Well, that's probably not true because I do have the benefit of voting against the Republicans.)

 

So, tell me, what generous benefits am I receiving for the taxes I supposedly don't pay? Please tell me what I can apply for to make my meger life a little more comfortable. I'm anxious to hear what I'm missing because I'm not getting anything for the taxes I'm paying except a pompus, self-righteous president.
