I found this news article kind of amusing. I wonder if Prince William knew what was happening around the castle :) .

Footman alleges he was raped by aide of Charles

By Andrew Clennell,

10 November 2002

A former footman in the royal household accused an aide to the Prince of Wales last night of raping him. George Smith, a one-time valet to Diana, Princess of Wales, also accused the heir to the throne of "covering up" the incident.

In coming forward, Mr Smith revealed himself to be the "victim" whose allegation of rape was recorded on tape by Princess Diana. The tape's existence emerged after the collapse of the trial of Paul Burrell, Diana's former butler, who was accused of theft.

Mr Smith said the Royal family shut the Burrell trial down to prevent his allegations being aired. "The Prince had covered it up when it all happened. He would not have wanted it coming out at the Old Bailey," Mr Smith told the Mail on Sunday.

The allegations will intensify pressure on Prince Charles to give a full account of a cover-up – if any – of the homosexual rape. Mr Smith was subsequently paid £38,000 severance package to leave the Royal household.

Writing in the Independent on Sunday today, Michael Jacob of the the Fabian Society, an influential Labour think-tank, argues that the case "brings the whole British constitution into question".

The former footman, waiving the right to anonymity granted to rape victims, said he had been "brutally" assaulted by the palace servant in 1989.

He admitted Princess Diana taped two interviews with him and said that the tapes contained "a second – and even more damaging – claim".

Mr Smith claims to have witnessed an incident "involving a member of the Royal family and a Palace servant", which he believes was the prime reason for the Palace to halt the Burrell trial.

The royals are such fun.

Traditional gossip is that gays were favored as servants in the House of Windsor because they didn't have family conflicts the heteros suffer. No calling in sick because the kiddies have the mumps, etc.

Who knew there was another benefit? :+

I miss the Queen Mum. She had a self-effacing way of accepting all the abuse heaped upon her and just turning it back.

She invented the title, you know. There had never been a Queen Mother until she decided to call herself that.

I forget where I read it, but she once got home from strenuous walkies and wanted a drink. Nobody downstairs answered the phone so she walked to the head of the stairs and yelled "would one of you old queens bring this old queen a drink?"

I loved that old broad!

I think it is fairly obvious that the Palace did not want the Butler to testify. There is something very fishy about the whole mess.

Burrell (the butler) claimed he had a two hour meeting with the Queen, during which he told her he had some of Diana's belongings that he was holding for safe keeping. I find it strange that the Queen would not request - or demand - that these items be returned forthwith.

It is also somewhat unbelievable that the Queen would grant a two hour meeting with a servant, unless there was something VERY serious to discuss. She has executive staff who would take care of such matters.

>The allegations will intensify pressure on Prince Charles to

Don't hold your breath waiting for that one to tell the truth.

If this is true than it was not a severance package as such. It was hush money. All of the Royals are famous for being cheap beyond truth. If they paid him what amounts to just over $60,000 US - there is much more to the story.

And knowing the British press (a lot of whom are no fans of the Royals) they will have a field day with this one. The whole truth will eventually come out.

And let us not forget that if is all proven to be true, then the Royals have subverted the British justice system, which is a big big

no-no.

This may do the Monarchy much more damage than all the scandles involving the junior Royals in past years. You ain't seen nutin yet!

>Mr Smith claims to have witnessed an incident "involving a

My guess would be that it involved either Edward or Andrew.

Butler accused of gay romp in palace

JEREMY WATSON

PAUL Burrell had gay sex at Buckingham Palace prior to his marriage, according to fresh newspaper allegations about the butler’s time with the Royal Family.

Australian tourist Greg Pead claimed he had an intense relationship with Burrell and had sex with him in the palace while the Queen was in residence.

Pead’s allegations come as a former Royal valet George Smith waved his anonymity to speak publicly for the first time about his alleged rape by a member of Prince Charles’s staff in 1989.

The latest revelations from Royal circles will also prompt concern over security arrangements at the palace and raise questions about the way senior members of the Royal Family deal with their servants.

Last night a former Royal police officer responsible for protecting the Queen revealed he had been concerned that gay servants were compromising the Royal Family’s safety by bringing suspected male prostitutes into the palace.

David Davies, a former chief superintendent, told The Sunday Times problems caused by “promiscuous” gay palace staff has caused “considerable concern and embarrassment” at the highest levels in the police. He claimed there had been “confrontations between officers at a low level and some of the royal staff bringing in rough trade”.

In the latest allegations concerning the private life of Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, Pead told the News of the World: “I hope she didn’t hear the sounds of what we did that afternoon,” referring to the Queen. The 43-year-old, who was 25 at the time of the alleged affair, claimed the relationship lasted for three years.

He claimed Burrell invited him to drink gin from the Queen’s private stock.

Pead said he met Burrell at a gay bar called Scandal near the palace and began a “passionate physical affair” which lasted for the whole of his month-long holiday in London. And he also claimed Burrell wrote him love letters for years afterwards.

Pead claimed: “His entire apartment was done out as a shrine to royalty. He was just like a magpie collecting shiny objects.”

He described how he had found himself wandering through thick carpeted corridors at the palace without any security vetting.

Pead claimed: “I was immediately accepted as Paul’s partner by all the other male palace servants, most of whom were also gay.”

Meanwhile, in the Mail on Sunday, Smith claimed Prince Charles thwarted investigations into his alleged rape by one of the Prince of Wales’s staff. He claimed the assault only came to light because of encouragement from Diana, Princess of Wales.

Smith said he didn’t tell anyone about the incident until Diana recorded his allegations as part of a behind-the-scenes war between her and Prince Charles following the collapse of their marriage.

Smith said he had been seconded to Prince Charles’s household three years prior to his alleged rape after serving as an army corporal during the Falklands War. He was already married with two children.

He claimed his attacker raped him while he slept after a drunken Sunday lunch.

Smith said: “I was having a good time, laughing and joking, and eventually I fell asleep. I woke up and... my trousers were down. I couldn’t remember a thing.”

He claimed the man, who is not named by the newspaper, showered him with gifts prior to the alleged rape.

Smith said he did not tell anyone about the alleged attack at the time or seek help, claiming he felt “dirty”. He also claimed that the man tried to attack him a second time during a Royal trip to Egypt.

Smith said: “The Prince had covered it up when it all happened. He would not have wanted it coming out at the Old Bailey.”

He added that he had been on heavy medication since 1995, but said this was partly because he was still haunted by his experiences on board the Sir Galahad when it was bombed during the Falklands War.

Meanwhile, Burrell’s wife Maria broke her silence about her husband’s relationship with Diana, admitting there were three people in their marriage.

She told the Sunday Mirror about the strain her husband’s undying loyalty to Diana had on their relationship.

The description is an echo of the famous comments by Diana in the BBC1 Panorama interview in 1995 when she said there were three people in her marriage in a veiled reference to Camilla Parker Bowles.

But Mrs Burrell maintains she was proud of her husband and knew Diana was never a real risk to their marriage.

She told the newspaper: “She tried to make up for taking Paul’s time by being generous. She gave us presents and I gave her Paul.”

It is not known if Mrs Burrell is aware of the gay sex allegations against her husband.

John Major and the former Archbishop of Canterbury were also dragged into the row over Burrell’s revelations yesterday for “interfering” with the marriage of Princess Diana.

Burrell claimed Diana’s marriage to the heir to the throne never stood a chance because of outside influences.

Burrell said: “Diana never wanted a divorce, it was thrust upon her. She tried so hard for it not to happen but in the end the marriage was taken away from her. Everyone was interfering – prime minister John Major, the Archbishop of Canterbury [George Carey] and other people who thought they knew her best.”

Burrell recounts Major’s visit to Kensington Palace, the princess’s home, shortly before the split was confirmed. “She said, ‘Why do I have to see him? It’s for me and Charles to decide.’” Major’s office said yesterday he had only offered advice when it was requested by the prince or princess.

Yesterday, as coverage of the affair descended into farce, television presenter Trevor McDonald was forced to put out a statement denying he had been reduced to tears during an interview to be screened later this week.

Burrell had claimed earlier that tears had “welled up” in the broadcaster’s eyes as he thanked him for agreeing to take part in the programme.

It amazes me that a country like England STILL gets so hung up on the Royal Family an anachronism at least 200 years out of date.I could never understand the fascination myself ,i mean there are only there for the tourists for gods sake.
