If the state of Florida, is so adamantly (and justifiably) opposed to cigarette smoking, why does it allow smoking in bars and clubs? Why are we non-smokers forced to be exposed to all of the carcinogens and other negative effects of smoking?

Even Quebec, with its ingrained smoking culture, saw the wisdom of banning all indoor smoking. Why doesn't Florida?

It's been non smoking in England for a number of years, there is no smoking allowed in any type of work place, therefore bars and restaurants fall into the category because they're someone's workplace, you can't even smoke in a van or truck because they're classed as a workplace, not that anyone takes any notice of the latter.

Eating out, visiting bars etc is a much nicer pastime than it used to be, the smokers over here winged and whined to high heaven about it but they soon adapted to the new laws. Thousands said they'd flout it, hardly anyone did when judgement day arrived.

Smokers can smoke in the beer gardens and outside spaces provided by bars and restaurants but they don't ever seem to be able to stub out their cigarettes in the bins provided, they seem to prefer plant pots and the pavement. It doesn't give their arguments much validity when they can't even get rid of their own litter, which is what it is. You wouldn't leave a McDonalds carton on the ground, dropped where you stood, so why are cigarettes any different.

Totally Agree with Bozo! NY Bar & Club/Restaurants were worried about losing Biz with an "indoor ban" and it never happened!

BUT then again we are talking the great state of Florida! Fraud/Corruption etc! Of course also there's the "that could never happen to me" attitude!

Is the state of Florida afraid the bar and club crowd will be so upset that they would cross the border into Alabama if they enacted an indoor smoking ban?

Makes no sense. Banning indoor smoking saves money and preserves lives.

The State of Tobacco Control 2010, sponsored by the American Lung Association, graded Florida a B in the Smokefree Air category:

Florida's position on smoking in bars just baffles the mind. Even in Texas (where there seem to be no laws against anything), smoking is banned in bars. Shame on Florida!!

One of the real "funny not so funny things" is..It's not like you have to take yourself outside into the COLD Winter Days or Nights to Smoke like in places like NYC!

I think Floridians just don't want to leave the A/C in the Bars!;)
