It's still a few days out, but Irene looks like it could be serious. The forecast is for landfall in SC on Saturday. According to NHC, Saturday morning's position will be at 32.5N 80W, which, according to Google maps, puts it at 1020 W. Ashley Avenue, Folly Beach, SC. How'd you like your house to be the target? Think he should try to sell quickly.

It's to late to sell... batten down the hatches, get to higher ground, fill the car with gas, stock up on supplies and hope he has a concrete bunker to help protect his assets. I hope that is not your vacation home, Lee.

One addition to your survival list. Get the hottest escort(s) quick to RIDE out the storm with you. Make sure you addcondoms and lube to your staples list of non-perishables.

My "vacation home" for these storms is an emergency operations center. I just found it funny that the exact coordiantes NHC put out plugged into google maps came up with one specific street address. the storm will obviously move before then so that may end up being the safest address around, but still ...

Anybody know where Jim Cantore is? If he shows up in your town, RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim Cantore the Famous "Drama Queen of Weather"! IF anyone justified their Salary it has to be him!

Don't get me started though alot of the Weather Channel "Talking Heads" get on my nerves! They talk to fast and to loud early in the A.M.

When there's "no disaster" to report they just rerun "Old Ones" hoping you don't switch channels!

Well we just found out. He's headed to Rhode Island. New England, look out.

Actually worried though because the current track takes it almost directly over Bosguy's town. Be safe and prepare Bill. But if you see Cantore, run like hell (after you have sex with him first, of course).

something wicked is here

Just wanted to check in. In richmond now at 5 pm, it is pretty bad. We have almost 600;000 customers out of power- and climbing fast. I lost power 2 hours ago (no galleries until I get power back -- pics are on pc. I'm posting this from my droid). Trees are down all over the city. But the really worrisome part? We haven't been hit hard. Top sustained winds haven't been above 25 mph here, with gusts no more than 35. We are over 125 miles from the eye of the storm. It has been raining almost 12 Hours but not the torrential downpours of further east. And still the damage is pretty severe. I am horribly worried about guys who are further north. It may weaken some but you are closer to the eye. PLEASE. Take this storm seriously. Already at least 5 deaths I have heard of. Be safe everyone. Will post later.

5:20 in nyc listed as a Cat 1, and will be a tropical store when it gets to us. A fucking tropical storm. For this the shut down Mass Transit in NYC? Its all about Bloombergs image, and you can be sure he will claim he was proactive, and anoint himself a hero for taking action. BULLSHIT.....

Jj. I am telling you that tropical storm winds and heavy rains for 18+ Hours can do bad damage. We haven't even had tropical storm winds and trees are down and power outages are climbing fast. The duration will cause considerable damage. Trust me. I see it all around me.

5:38 PM. Next to nothing Annapolis MD. Just took a 2 hour nap and slept right through everything. Damn golf tournament canceled. Going out for some more tonic...have plenty of gin. But we are due starting about midnight for 6 hours or so. If anything like Isabel 8 years ago, downtown Annapolis will be flooded. Parking meter in the circle were under water last time and people were kayaking halfway up Main St. Hope the gym opens tomorrow, Missed today

I have just checked our outage map. Over 50% of Richmond is without power. 75% of our North Carolina customers are without power. We are at about 700,000 customers out (we lost about 1.1 million in Isabel) and Northern Virginia still hasn't felt the full brunt or duration of this storm. We will probably be close to Isabel totals once Northern Virginia starts to feel the full effects. The only thing that will stop it is the western part of Virginia hasn't been hit as hard this time, compared to Isabel.

The eye of the hurricane still hasn't made it to Virginia yet. This thing will last a long time. Do NOT underestimate this storm.

Lee, Thanks for the updates... I agree, it sounds like it's going to be a long storm... Ground here is already saturated and the storm hasn't even hit NY. It's the flooding most people are now concerned with... Stay well my friend and keep us posted... Coop

jj -- how much experience do you have with hurricanes? How much do you have with a hurricane that lasts 18+ hours? I've been working with hurricanes and tracking them extensively for over 25 years. This is one of the biggest in size and longest in duration we've had in my time. Is it the strongest? No. But the duration and continued battering. Much like the erosion of rock by water over an extended period of time, its the duration that will cause the problem. And around here, our ground wasn't saturated before hand so our trees weren't as prone to falling as they are in the already soaked New England. Yet down they come.

Hurricanes and damage done, especially to the electricity grid, is something I have extensive experience with. And this one has everyone worried.

Watch porn while you can. Enjoy. But don't count on ConEd keeping you juiced up in perpetuity.

And everyone -- whatever you do -- IF YOU SEE A DOWNED POWER LINE, FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T TOUCH IT. Assume any downed line is live.

Well, I'm one of the lucky ones. My power is back now. For some reason, my development is rarely hit with power outages from storms like this. The fact that we lost at all should say something.

A few pics from Richmond -- this are not small trees down. These are big-assed trees this storm is bringing down.

And the thing to remember about Richmond and the pictures: we haven't had it bad. We are so far from the eye of the storm. NYers and many of my friends in New England will be closer to the eye and the winds and rain will be much worse than we have seen here, even though the storm will be weaker.
