Anyone else enjoy this film as much as I did? It was a very sweet gay love story. Hollywood always trips me out, in that the best actor to play a gay man from Arkansas is a straight Scotsman (Ewan McGregor), but that speaks to the actor's talent, I suppose. Jim Carrey also did a great job as "King Con."

I saw this movie at the Palm Springs Film Festival last year. I liked it, but did consider it a bit odd. Both Carrey and Ewan McGregor did excellent jobs of playing gay men,.

What about Rodrigo Santoro who played the third lead! He is a butch Brazilian who lives in Rio. He played the part of the drag queen and did a great job. Considering how he looked in drag in the movie compared to his actual looks, is a compliment to the make-up artist and to his acting skills.

Saw it recently -- it came up on my netflix queue and I had forgotten what it was about. What a surprise! I thought the acting was superb and really got into the story. But the epilogue/ending was really a downer.

I agree that Rodrigo Santoro also did a great acting job (and looked hot!). I wonder if he would qualify for permanent residency in the US... I guess I didn't find the epilogue as depressing because it was obvious that Jim Carrey's character didn't know when to quit/was too over the top despite his intelligence. Overall, it was a pretty feel-good movie for me.

Yes I remember him from LOST playing Paolo the jewel thief. Very short arc and probably one of the more notorious missteps of the LOST series bringing on Nikki and Paolo only to kill them off. He definitely raised the hot factor on the show though.

Speaking of Rodrigo Santoro, here is another film where you will find him doing an odd role. The film is the remake of "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone." The original story was written by Tennessee Williams and initially was to be a story of an older gay man picking up hustlers in Rome. However, because of the subject matter, the hustlers stayed in the story but the character was changed to that of an older woman picking up young men. The gender (from older man to older woman was made apparently to satisfy society).

Here is a link to the newer version : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311730/ which is available for purchase from amazon, half.com or from a Google search.

The original version web link can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Roman_Spring_of_Mrs._Stone

Both versions of the film were great.

I loved the movie and have seen it a couple of times. Being based on a true story made it even more special. However, don't be to sure about Ewan's preferences.
