At a recent minor league hockey game, a father bought tickets for a raffle in which a ticket would be selected and the winner would be given the chance to make a hockey shot and win $50,000. The father bought two tickets at $10 each ticket and one of his twin sons was selected to try and make the shot. As fate would have it, the selected twin was not in the building so his 10 year old twin brother went down on the ice to try the shot. The shot: 3.5 inch opening more than 50 feet away, one shot with a hockey stick to clear a 3 inch in diameter puck. The 10 year old makes the shot. The next day, the father reports back to the facility the facts of the shot. Now the insurance company is considering whether to give the money or not.

Seems to me, no way insurance company will give the money, nor should they. Opinions as to the father's actions and opinions about the insurance company are welcome.

The point is not which ticket was which, It's who made the shot! This is a slam dunk decision.

Was the winning ticket purchased with the missing twin's name on it?

If so, I'm thinking they'll try to avoid giving out the money.

If not, they'd better make with the moolah or their reputation is going to get a big black eye.

It's a 10 year old kid. The reputation is taking a hit either way. Big bad insurance company takes money away from a kid that made a miracle hockey shot. This is the kind of decision that gives PR directors ulcers.

(By the way, Daddy, I'm no jock but I'm pretty sure slam dunk is a different sport. ;))

Sorry, but when I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was a review of a new porn film starring the Magliatti ? Twins.

Got something on my mind that's tying me up.

According to the news report I saw last night, the winning ticket did have a specific name on it and the dad sent the other kid in. The contest rules state that the person whose name is on the ticket has to compete (which makes sense, to avoid ringers).

I hope there is some sort of compromise reward, at least, but I doubt it.

Proves that honesty is not always the best policy. If the father had kept his mouth shut, who would have known? Regardless, a 10 year old twin - don't they share enough DNA to be pretty much interchangeable?

I too, however, started this post with more salacious thoughts on my mind. (Sigh) Another unrealized fantasy, I fear...
