Hi. I'm in total shock and mourning over Paul Wellstone's death today. :-( :-( .

Minnnesota lost an original.

The Senate lost its lone voice for the little guy.

The national election had an earthquake occur.

I lost a personal friend.

Compassionate leaders have observed that, when all is said and done, the best measure of a generation is how it cares about its least fortunate. Paul was today's standard of that measure.

That bright light was extinguished today.

I'm old enough to know that the sun will still rise tomorrow.

I'm not too old to cry.

It really hurts.

Just thought I'd share my feelings with you among several others tonite.

P.S. FFF, in case you're gloating, please give me time to grieve. When I'm done, give me your best truly passionate conservative idealogue (if there are any) and I'll do battle. }> But, this isn't the time. :*

This is devastating. He was such a passionate champion for those without clout and influence and an advocate for the marginalized. He had so much left to contribute to this country. It is a tragedy for us here in Minnesota and far beyond. Devon's Diary has a beautiful tribute today, too.

I have to admit I hadn't known much about him before yesterday but now I'm really depressed about his death. Why is it so rare to have a politician who votes by his conscience & not by the polls? And as my father put it yesterday, "It's always the Jews" (I'm still trying to figure that one out) (I just said, "It's true, Dad."). Not to be on a real downer here but if, after November, we have a Republican Senate, won't that be the end of all our civil liberties in our lifetime? Bush will push through his far-right-wing justices. And life will suck.

A political post from Rick Munroe? At least my trusty ass pic is still there. <whew>

Rick,

Your message is right on. The political arena is so crowded

with legalists that we should fear for our individual rights.

Our gifts of financial support and time are needed to keep

the alternative voices alive in this country.

And thank you for showing us your ass. It helps remind us

that all is not doom and gloom.

Peace.

>P.S. FFF, in case you're gloating,

Believe it or not, I don't gloat over families being killed in plane crashes - even if they are Democrats.

Am I of the opinion that his politics were somewhere between ultra-liberal and "this way to the quiet white room"? Yes. Does it appear that, based on what everyone (including REPUBLICANS) is saying that personally he was a really great guy? Yes. If that's what everyone says, then he must have been a great guy and it's always tragic when great guys die - REGARDLESS of their politics. Not only do I feel sad for his sons, but there were other people on that plane and they had families too.

It is true that I want the Senate to be under Rebulican control, but I certainly wouldn't want it to occur by someone being killed.

We were gonna win it back in November even before Paul's tragic death.

So, take a deep breath and get use to the following phrase: "Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott".

And as a side note, I am NOT a fan of Lott's. I wish they would get someone else for the job but it looks like I'm stuck with him for now.

Sadly yours,

FFF

Well guys, that in a nutshell explains FFF. Now, we know where all these rantings are coming from.

Well, I did know a lot about him before yesterday, so my distress was immediate, fierce and quite surprising even to me. I adored him because he always said what he felt was best, even if it ultimately hurt him. So rare in a man of politics! He was not running as well in the polls this election because of his stand against the war in Iraq, but he said he'd rather lose than compromise what he believed in. He thought it would make interesting class material when he returned to teaching political science. This has overshadowed many other upsetting things these days. It is a tremendous loss for integrity in politics.

I, like Rick, knew virtually nothing about him until yesterday. I'm sure he was the great person, Senator, father, guy that all politicians are saying he was. However, don't they ALWAYS say that. Can't imagine having someone of his stature die tragically and have the opposition publically say "Good riddance to that little shit" I alway take postmortem accolades with a grain of salt.

And not to take away anything from the Senator, but, it was a relief to have CNN have something else to focus on rather than their 42 hour a day reportage of the sniper. Talk about overkill.

Don't be too sure of that. W has fumbled on the economy BIG time and all I can is a quote from George Sr's second run for the White House.

FFF: take a deep breath and practice saying, "Senator Walter Mondale." }> You may or may not win back the Senate, but the Wellstone Senate seat will remain in safe Democratic hands. :7

Yeah, yeah, I know he's 74. But that damn near makes him young enough to be Strom Thurmond's grandson. ;-) Sure, he's yesterday and not tomorrow x( , but, hey, you play the hand you're dealt. :*

Look at it this way, FFF: recycled red meat is better than no red meat at all. :+

Lastly and personally, FFF, thanks for your comments...thanks for being a gentleman. :)

Mondale has had luck ONLY with Minnesota. If I remember correctly, and I do, Minnesota was the ONLY state he carried against Reagan.

And we all know how the Democrats love dealing from the bottom of the deck.

You're welcome. It wasn't hard for me since I AM a gentleman.

Close - you're a lady. And your political affiliation isn't surprising. Gay Republicans are like black Klansmen, Jewish Nazis, and female chauvinist pigs. It's always been obvious that you hate yourself.

Be sure and tell me to 'take my meds' for the millionth time.

Yes, of course you're correct. :7 He also took his loss with some grace and humor. Having just suffered the greatest electoral defeat in Presidential history, he dryly observed, "I always wanted to run for President in the worst way...and I did." x(

That stipulated, what's your point? He'll be a caretaker Senator. :* We're not talkin the Restoration here, dude. ;-)

Donnie, don't be so hardon...oops, sorry ;-) hard on F cubed. There is a very simple explanation for gay Republicans: their wallets are bigger than their dicks. }>

I have a little rat poison if you'd care to try it!

If you were ever to post ONE non-bitchy remark or say one nice thing about anyone, I think my monitor would implode.
