I'm trying to give away good used furniture to some local gay. Putting up a bulletin at the GLCenter didn't help. Any suggestions, are there gay classified ads that AREN'T for hooking up?

I don't want to leave it on the front lawn, I want it to go to someone who really wants/needs it, not just someone passing by.

Ideally, I'd like to give it to someone new to town. How I would have LOVED free good furniture when I first moved here as a broke ass 25 year old. Thanks!

I had some furniture I gave away in 09. I just listed it on the craigslist as free. got dozens of emails in under 30 minutes. I ended up giving it too mostly college students moving for the first time.

In the past I have contacted "The Salvation Army" who would pick up the Furniture IF it was in "Sellable" Condition.

It did not have to be pristine just so they could make a few bucks for the worthwhile Charitable work they have done for years. Or in your area maybe there's another Charity you could pass it on to?

There's nothing worse than watching people "who don't need it" grab it!

Like Joseph, I put pictures in a listing on Craigslist's free section and had a dozen or so inquiries immediately. A young couple setting up their first apartment together seemed thrilled to get my old stuff.

While it's noble to try and choose a worthy gay, it's probably pointless. Your neighborhood, alone, may take care of a little self-selection on that front and isn't the point for someone who wants/needs it to get it?

how about contacting your local AIDS support center and/or gay switchboard..They could probably help find your stuff a "family friendly" home.. or if you don't mind spending a few dollars, put an ad in your local gay paper..

BG -- I agree with the idea of giving it to a worthwhile charity. And I don't really want to take it down that road. But the Salvation Army is rabidly anti-gay and I can't see giving it to them. Your choice of course, but there has got to be a better way than that in my mind.

{and I could go on and on}

I don't know about LA obviously, but in Richmond the largest thrift store in the entire city is the Diversity Thrift store where the proceeds benefits the Gay Community Center. Is there no gay charity that would be able to benefit from it?

Thanks everyone. I think Out Of The Closet charges WAY too much for used stuff. I'll probably just leave it out and let the neighborhood kids fight over it.

Face book

If you're on Facebook there's the Facebook marketplace. You can restrict your listings to friends of friends or something. While they may or may not be gay there might be some connect as to who is getting the furniture.
