Well-it's official-Spiderman opened for real without the Geek Chorus, with the role of Arachne reduced greatly, and minus one of the best dance numbers in the previews - the "Spider High Heel Dance." Washington Post gave it mixed if somewhat crappy reviews (they rarely like anything). And it is 20 minutes shorter than the original show. Case of less is better. What do others think of the revamped spectacle??

Saw the first version. I was in the severe minority in that I kind of enjoyed Arachne and 'Deeply Furious' (the high heel song). Her character was the one of the few interesting aspects of the show, aside from the relationship between Emily and Norman Osbourne, and Patrick Page as the Green Goblin. But it was way too long for no good reason. Hoping to get a chance to see 2.0 soon!

Saw the revamped version a week ago in previews. Not the worst theatre I've seen, but it was barely average. I'd grade it a C-.

I wish I could've seen the original version as I enjoyed the Arachne songs and wished she would've been more in the show. The actress who played Mary Jane is miscast; the acrobatics were excellent; the music went from gawd awful to good; some of the dance numbers were painful to watch others were fun. The set was fantastic - I love the comic book look. Hands down, Patrick Page as Green Goblin stole the show. He was the best part of it. The first act really drags and the end of the act was "eh." The second act was better but I just wanted it over with so I could leave.

Oh, there were also some outstanding hot cute dancer boys - which is always good. (They also doubled as Spidey in certain scenes.)

I'd said say it's a show built for the masses who want safe, freindly, known material. After the performance I attended, half the audience jumped to their feet for a standing ovation. The rest of us were WTF? Really? I hold no ill will towards the actors as they did the best they could but holy crap a standing o was unwarranted. And I'm not a theatre snob by any means. I just don't get why the lovefest.

I would never have paid full price for the show but I wanted to see it for curiosity's sake.

For those who are curious...

The show has improved overall. Some things changed that I wished hadn't, and some things didn't change I wish had. The show is much more linear than the first version was. It has some really good elements now, though it's still a bit slow at times. Overall, it isn't far from something like 'Wicked' as far as quality.

Spiderman Redux

A raccoon that appeared to be stranded on a ledge after climbing more than 20 stories of a high-rise office building in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, has made it to the roof, easing concerns that the animal could plummet to its death.

Onlookers and reporters tracked the raccoon’s progress Tuesday as it scaled the UBS Tower. By early Wednesday, the animal made it to the roof, where St. Paul Animal Control had placed cat food and a trap in hopes of enticing the animal to safety.

The raccoon’s adventures caused a stir on social media, with many Twitter users voicing concern for its safety or joking about the drama surrounding the animal’s exploits. Minnesota Public Radio, from a building less than a block away, branded the raccoon #mprraccoon.
