Listening to NPR tonight, I heard a segment on a controversial pep song sung by a bunch of Yale undergraduates. It went as follows; " No means yes, yes means anal". It was sung very lustily and with great feeling. Apparently it offended certain of the fairer sex.

I found the controversy quite interesting. I think mainstream America is behind the curve when it comes to sexual mores. It reminds me of when Kinsey published his findings about seventy years ago concerning sexuality and the difference between what was actually going on in America and what people thought was going on.

I believe this is a generational thing and as usual, gay men are way ahead of the curve in matters sexual, leaving their straight brethern in the dark and clueless. That's just my opinion.

Speaking of Kinsey, if you haven't seen the 2004 movie ("Kinsey") starring Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, and Chris O'Donnell, it's well worth watching.

A totally interesting guy.

They offended "the fairer sex" not because of the reference to anal sex in particular, but because they're implying that women who say "yes" are sluts who will tolerate everything and anything sexually. I'm very familiar with Yale's peer to the north, and the atmosphere there was incredibly hostile to women. Any illusions I had about men were lost there.

Here's an article from the New York Post that gives more background. When do these kids have time to go to class? Seminars on lesbian porn, workshops on drag, and proper use of sex toys are just a few of the offernings at Yale these days.

Reading the article, it seems that those who scream the MOST for Tolerance of the social/sexual extremes are the most intolerant of the middle.

Yale is also known as the "Gayest Ivy." Maybe that's why there's hostility to women, but in personal dealings with the LGBT community at Yale, I have found that the lesbians and the gay men seem to get along together very well. Must be a lot of straight (?) guys with problems.

IME it's the Finals Club/S&B-type straight men who are causing the problems. There are misogynistic gay men, but they're not the ones yelling "Yes means anal" at women.
