James Durbin, was probably the best across the board. Sure hated to see him eliminated this week. Damn! He has the best vocals, best entertainment, great personality, most creative performances, best back-story, etc... Like other non-Idol winners Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert, He will still have a solid music career, and no, he wont have to worry about buying diapers anymore.

yup Country singer won. Think both of them will have big country careers and though i dont listen to country much, I think if they put out a duet it could be a very big hit

I started this back the fist of March and glad I did. Some great thoughts popped up along the way. But as I said earlier it ended for em about three weeks ago. However, I did try to stay up and watch the final announcement. After some exhausting physical activity the day and night before, and after a few too many pops I think, I fell asleep at 9:30 propped up in my "Lazyboy". Woke up in the same position at 5am this morning. Thanks to pk and Munroe for confirming my worst fears and double thanks to Munroe for reminding me of that wonderful Yiddish phrase "Feh". I'd give it a double Feh and What the Fuck also. Maybe next year we'll get back to some reality in this show and I really hope Tyler is replaced.

Howdy, y'all.

No offense to our southern members, especially the hot boys down south, but I can't stand country music. I grew up a Motown girl so southern twang/folksy music makes me want to shoot myself in the head with a hunting rifle.

Her raspy belt grew on me towards the end but I stopped watching Idol after Haley was voted off. I enjoyed her rendition of "I Who Have Nothing." Personally, I would have preferred Haley, Pia, and James as the top three. Would have found that show more entertaining.

On the other hand, country music seems to be the only segment of the music industry that is thriving financially. Country music stars often make more money, sell more albums, even if they're less known, than pop stars. Idol has had tremendous success with Carrie Underwood.

Since American Idol is American, it makes sense that country would rise to the top. All the show really cares about is profit (which is quite natural for a business) and given the huge success of Carrie Underwood, why not crank out a few more country singers?

Rock is pretty much dead. White audiences won't watch a Rap contest (that ain't sing'in anyway). Hip Hop has turned into dance-mix tribal beats. And pop ballads are going nowhere. Seems to me, country is Idol's future. Oh well, that frees up 30 minutes for me. With DVR, that's all it took for me to watch two shows a week. Won't miss it.

PS Can we talk about how ugly the fashion styling was this year? Hair, make-up, and clothing was AWFUL. I thought for sure that ugly prom dress would have been the end of Lauren. Her hair was always a nightmare (she looked better, and younger, in rehearsal) and she's too FAT for TV (and for a 16-year-old).
