N13 Pia did not sing Mountain High Valley Low, she sang River Deep, Mountain High. The latter is a Ike & Tina Turner song. These are not the same songs.

I dont think you can compare a vocal group performance that takes entire day to stage for television and they obviously remix the vocals to spruce up the sound in a studio. There is a big difference between the sound of a live performance and one staged for television.

The information I have been able to gather, Pia's voting has never reached top 3. I suspect what happened was that viewers just thought she would be safe.

Oh well there has to be at least one strange vote every year. I am not so sure the judges are happy to use the save on Casey and would have used for Pia.

Anyway there is a thought that Nigel may have the voters pick bottom 3 like they do in So you think you can dance and let the judges pick to the top 5 or 6. I think make up would look quite different now if that were the case.

Unofficial though it may be dialidol.com runs a pretty good survey of the voting by measuring the frequency of the busy signals. That site had Pia third last week and Stefano and Jacob as the bottom two. Pia has been near the top previously on that site as well.

Actually it was River Deep, Mountain High. Same song. Big difference.

Movie Songs Night...

Lauren and Scotty are the most marketable of all the remaining contestants. They shined Wednesday night. Haley's performance was unfortunate. Jacob Lusk is so over the top that I'm starting to see him as a Glenn Close clone in a drag version of Sunset Boulevard. And Paul--Why in the name of the good Christ would ANYONE intentionally channel Kenny Loggins circa 1977?? Casey was boring and did not do justice to Nature Boy--Nat King Cole must be turning over (and yawning) in his grave. As much as I like the judges, they are not doing their job of providing meaningful, constructive advice.

Paul McDonald Eliminated This Week...

Some Idol viewers loved Paul McDonald while others ran for the mute-button the moment he opened his mouth. While he wasn't my favorite contestant this season, I believe Paul's quirky vocal style is exactly the kind of thing that sets one apart as a standout performer rather than just another singer. Paul showed his ability, good nature and class when he sang his departure song. He seems like a very nice guy and I can't help but hope he succeeds in some aspect of the music biz.

Some will hate me for saying this, but Paul shouldn't have left the show this week--it should have been Stefano. Paul is unique and different and we could use more original singers on the radio. Many of the people left this season excluding James and Lauren are just run of the mill singers and don't have anything special to add. At least Paul had some chops, charisma and stage presence. I miss you already Paul (and Pia too).

We watched most of this season the other night (thanks to YouTube) and both like Casey and James the best. We had heard this was the most talented season so we had to check it out for ourselves! We also liked the positivity from the judges. I guess we've been converted to Idol fans (for now).

i am stunned. Rick Monroe admitting in print he is an American Idol fan. Only an admission that he is straight would have stunned me more. Has there been an invasion of body snatchers in Chelsea? (straight line I know but it is late and I can't complete the joke.)

I want the name of Paul's dentist. I adore this guy and he will do well no matter what. Stefano-pack yo' bags dude!!

He does have a pretty smile but don't you think he went way too far with the teeth whitening? It's like looking at a eclipse...I feel like I'll go blind if I look too long. :p

Hey, Rick Munroe has no problem admitting when I'm wrong! Although, I do think the show is very different now. The judges are more supportive and the talent is more talented (at least, from the clips we've seen in the past). And now I want to see who wins. Damn you, P-kow...you win. :p

He reminds me of the Abominable Snowman from the old Rudolph TV show.

The judging -- or lack of it -- this season has been the worst aspect of the show. Everyone is "beautiful" and "I love your voice." Enough already. They need Simon.

It is a fucking love fest. Everyone loves everyone. Steven is a real disappointment as far as critique but I do enjoy his numerous F bombs that get bleeped but not for the kids in the audience. Wonder how FOX is handling that situation.

Idol Ratings Climbing Higher...

When Simon Cowell announced his departure from American Idol last year, loads of critics predicted the "beginning of the end" of the show and it's decade-long juggernaut lock on the top two spots of the weekly prime-time ratings. Apparently, the majority of viewers love the new and improved Season 10: “Idol” is averaging 25 million viewers this season, up 1 percent over the same time last season. "Idol" is gaining viewers for the first time since 2007.

"The Final Four" have Lady GaGa as a mentor this week and she performs on Thursday night's results show. Should be fun. Does any one have a prediction on which contestants will/should make it to the Top Three?

Lady Gaga is also performing on the Season Finale. She is in Cannes this week with a special performance. I suspect that her performance Thursday is either a video or taped.

It's Thursday, the 12th of May. "American Idol" has just ended. Unfortunately, James did NOT make it to the end. Apparently, "mediocrity and popularity" go hand in hand in conjunction with this particular show. It is NOT the first time that the better talent is "not" the winner!

From those who were left--the cute young woman whose name I can't remember should have been the one to leave from amongst those left in this season's vying for the championship crown of being crowned "AMERICAN IDOL!"

Axiom, I agree with you. It should have been a James and Scottie finale, imo. I can only assume James Durbin's fans were so confident he would sail through to the final and therefore they felt less motivated to vote this week??

This has been a season of disgust for me. I said last night, the show has ended for me for this season. Scotty should have packed it up a long time ago and frankly Steven Tyler has been a disappointment as a judge - he loves everyone.
