I was told that "The Townhouse" is a meeting spot for older gents and younger guys who want support, but that it is not really a hustler bar. Sorry I can't do better than that.

Way back when Townhouse was a nice place to meet established gentlemen when I first moved to manhattan 10 years ago for my residency. However, it's on the upper east side and a little far from most gay bars, except, I think there is OW (Oscar Wilde) down the street and the Web (a bar for asian admirers...). Haven't been there for several years.

 

Many friends and I went there frequently for the piano lounge (great pianist!) and several times in the evening, we were propositioned by the more mature gentlemen there (who now seem very young! by these old eyes....). Sometimes, they just even grope you as you walk by... I guess it might be the same now. Not sure.

Too true Brooklyn regarding going first to the Gaiety and then onto Stella's to seal the deal with someone working there. That was my MO when I used to go to NewYork years ago. For me, the fun in NYC died when Stella's closed. I never hired directly from the Gaiety as I don't like doing sloppy seconds....or thirds. I understand some of those guys would "work" 4-5 times in a day.

 

The rentboy bar I have found anywhere these days that resembles what Stell's used to be like is Black & White in Madrid. It's not NY so a topic for a different thread.

Sadly, The Townhouse is not what it once was, and you would be hard-pressed to find younger companionship there today ( or for the last 10/15 years.) Hustler bars in NYC are today only memory, everything on that "score" has migrated to the Internet.

In the Final Year's STELLA'S became a Magnet for Latino "Working Guys" by word of mouth you almost could have felt like you were in Spain.....

 

Many Hunky Latino's past through that front door! A couple are still "Working It" in Miami for the climate! LOL

Just another voice lamenting the day Stella's closed.

 

I was not one to sit at a bar and lurk in NYC - but it was really great when I finished dinner and theatre with friends I could wander over to Stella's and just linger outside for a half our or so and invariably I would be able to hook up with some realy HOT Latino guys who had either just finished dancing or were tired of hanging around as often there was too much competition. Some of them (from Columbia and Venezuela) were amazing. AND... you only had to cross the street for a cheap room.

 

But as others have said, these days are gone. no longer can you find a decent street guy around the Port Authority or walking in Chelsea... no longer pick up a working guy in a bar like Stella's... On another thread a guy lamented that escorts did not want to meet him on the street for a few minutes for a once-over, and the bars did offer that... and more.

 

The gay escort pick-up bars in Germany and Amsterdam also seem to have gone the way of those in NYC -- for the days I could walk into some places like BLUE BOY/WHY NOT in Amsterdam, have a beer, an oogle some 12 or so really hot uys from all over Europe, take my time talking to one or two, and then get a room upstairs... Or go to some really hot bars in FFM or Hamburg and do the same. The '80's and '90's were so much more fun than now.

I am glad you didn't encounter any problems. If latin street *****s are your thing, there is still plenty of action going at the the Port Authority terminal near George Washington bridge. Keep in mind that it's not a safe 'hood at night. While it can be exciting, it's not a scene for the uninitiated. Do you know 'No Parking' bar in Washington Heights? As a fan of latin guys at the former Stella's, it might be worth a visit

Hey Baron, thanks. I am a New Yorker by birth, and know Washington Heights, but even tho I am from here, I wold never venture up there to cruise... Port Authority on 42nd street was always more accessible to me (no need for a car, ample opportunities for rooms by the hr nearby). I did know that the guys outside Stella's had been 86'd by management but I was also a careful chooser. I normally only headed up there late, and often would see two or three leave together (often shown the door by management). I would give them the eye, see which one responded more "securely" and then went in for the invite (and never was I ripped off, which was great).

 

Through this, I eventually met 3 guys who I saw on and off for some time (over a year) til I moved on and they did too. But they were HOT, had nice bodies, were amenible in bed in all kinds of positions, and were great and reasonably inexpensive fun.

I pretty much stopped going there after I turned 21 in 2007. I go there once a year and it never changes. No Parking and Coconuts are the places to be! There are also several lounges in queens that always have some cute/exotic looking boys too
