There was a bar/restaurant I used to go to in the City named Rounds. They closed, but opened nearby as "Circles." Does anyone know what the action rhere is?

Also, another favorite spot used to be the Townhouse. Are they alive and well?

Thanks, Jeff. I remember it as a rather classy place, where you could meet decent, relatively intelligent men and have a civil conversation... and more, back in your flat or hotel, if it led to that.

There was a gorgeous bartender in his 20's who had quit his job as account exec for then BBDO. He flirted tastefully and I was never able to get him after work. I became convinced he wasn't gay at all, he just knew where the good job/good tips were. He still was a joy to look at and converse with.

I need to get back there.

I wonder...if they close again, will they come back as "Spheres"? :p

I am tempted to say "How did you get in?", but I won't.

I remember it fondly. It lured me to NYC on a near monthly basis.

In addition to the company of intelligent and attractive young men,

there was a decent restaurant with a pianist and singer providing entertainment. The place was aesthetically pleasing, offering

the best of surroundings for escorts and their fans.

It was the best of times....

So, where's the Townhouse and what's the action there? Sometimes, you guys turn this place into a knitting circle and forget business.:-)

RE:Townhouse in NYC

The Townhouse is on East 58th Street between Third and Second Avenues in New York City.

It is a pretty good bar, well run, nicely appointed. There are three rooms, one of them dominated by a piano and attempts at singalong, better catered to by some of the piano players than by others. Some pretty good voices on many evenings. I like to sing but can't remember most of the lyrics. Sigh. A lot of older men and a surprising number of 20's and 30's types in business and the professions. I haven't seen that many openly operating escorts there in the last few months, with the exception of a few glaringly obvious and not very attractive types who are almost always there. But with the arrival of autumn and the return of the serious vacation and Hamptons types, maybe that will change. I certainly hope so.

But, it is just an upscale bar in a wealthy corner of NYC so it often attracts young men hoping to hook up one of the customers, preferably for some financial gain.

It is most assuredly NOT a hustler bar.

The Townhouse is located at 236 E. 58th Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave.

There are two seperate places called Townhouse: one is a restaurant (closer to 3rd) the other is the bar (on the same st.) but closer to 2nd.

I know this place well, in fact, one of my recent threads was based on an incident there.

I'm sure you're not interested in the restaurant, but I did find the food good.

As for the bar, it's a "gentlemen's" type bar. Older (professional type) men and some cute young escorts. I've only gone there with a companion. I don't find the patrons there to be friendly or nice. You should have no problem meeting an escort or a bartender. The friendly bartenders can fill you in on all the action.

If you need more info. on the bar, their # is 212-754-4649

A Vote for Rounds

Rounds was a lot more fun than the Townhouse. I remember meeting a buff Hofstra student who was a dead ringer for Scott Baio. Nice guy,

I saw him a number of time, but lost track when he joined a fraternity. You never know whom you would meet there; a client's

paradise in the days before the internet really took off. I miss Rounds very much!

While I was looking for a website for the Townhouse, I stumbled across another restaurant/bar in the same area called REGENTS. On their site, they mention in their customer profile that it is a place for "discerning older gentlemen and their younger admirers". Does this mean what it sounds like? Anybody have the 411 on this place?
