Anyone know what is up with gayromeo.com?? It says "Long-term outage" when you go to the homepage.

Wonder if some of our high-moral conservatives got to them like CL...

I wouldn't look for knots in a bulrush ... From GayRomeo.com homepage:

Dear User,

Due to a power failure in the data center, our service is currently unavailable. We are working hard to restore our regular service as soon as possible. Unfortunatly we expect not to be online before Sunday evening 11:00 PM (CEST). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to having everything back up and running for you in the near future.

Kind regards,

Your GayRomeo Team

I agree but the murders that happened in Boston and other places after hook ups on CL did outrage many.

I agree but CL really had nothing whatsoever to do with the murders other than providing the vehicle for the perp to target his victim. They may have placed the individual victim in harm's way, but to assume that the perpertrators of these horrible, heinous acts would not have found some other avenue to "recruit" a victim is blaming the vehicle for the event instead of where it belongs: on the sick, whack-jobs who committed them. From my perspective, it is no more CL's fault or responsibillity than it is GM's fault for a drunk driving accident, and to a large degree even less so. Without CL, these scum would still have been able to target masseuses, escorts, prostitutes or whatever their fetish and fantasy was and I fear someone would have still been dead. In fact, that CL was able to assist the police in tracking these vermin down may have even reduced the death toll. Without such an easy way to identify the perp, a killing spree(s) could have easily ensued. Imagine if Jack the Ripper had recruited his victims through a source such as CL. He would no longer be the mystery he is because he would have been identified and nailed. Murders of sex workers have been going on since time immemorial. Unfortunately, they will probably continue because we as a species continue to produce psychologically and emotionally damaged, horrific people at times. However, using the GM comparison, the last time I checked, there were not a lot of drunk driving fatalilties in the 19th century.

It's poltical scapegoatology at its finest. There have been murders and robberies of people simply selling things on CL but we don't hear shouts to shut CL down entirely or stopping for sale ads. Same with newspapers, billboards in grocery stores and any other mechanism available. In fact I dare say these crimes far outweigh the number of cases involving masseuses/escorts et. al. Let's be clear, the problem is not CL, the problem is not really the fact that sex workers were assaulted or murdered, it's really about the fact that there were "OMG" sex workers.

I hope you know me well enough by now, pk, to know that I don’t anger easily, I don’t get pissed off very easily. I try my damndest to be tolerant of almost all behaviors as long as they involve no injury or harm to anyone else. However, sanctimonious windbag politicians feigning moral outrage and people who pontificate on general societal problems who haven’t got enough brains to spell cat if you spot them the “C” and the “A” are the sorts that do push my buttons long and hard. And then I get to start acting quite cranki”lee”.

End of soap box.

You would definitely be wrong in that speculation. Gayromeo is a very well designed and executed web site and it is unlikely their staff is responsible for a power outage. The only problem I have with it is that it is not used very much by those in the U.S.

I wonder if gayromeo shares the same Engineering staff as Rentboy. Seems like M4RN is the only site that consistently works. Too bad as it's ugly. Definitely not designed by a gay man.

M4RN works and has a lot of great guys in the Los Angeles market, GayRomeo has about 3 or 4. Rentboy is just too high tech for its own good, the admins can't even seem to figure out how keep it running. Also it's too damn upscale. $300/hr sheesh! Adam4adam and backpage have been picking up most of the slack from Craigslist, along with the hundreds of below the radar cl m4m ads.

I've never heard that before. It's a good one.

I'm glad you liked it, Duchess. I was thinking about another idiom in French saying "Ne pas chercher midi à 14h" (literally: don't look for noon at 2pm), but some expressions don't translate very well.

It's good to see GayRomeo back up and running ... :)
