I don't feel sorry for the parishioners of that cult. Maybe someone is trying to tell them something about their anti-gay hate-filled beliefs...Consquences to their Anti-gay actions.

How big a hypocrite is he? Hope he is not too ill to do the last years of his life in jail.

Jeez about 2 million and most of it spent on escorts and entertainment I knew I should have been a priest, but the vow of celibacy alway got me. Geez, if I knew there was an escort option I would have done it.

Well this guy might actually enjoy prison! Unlike others, he might enjoy the company .

Good point, Socal. If this continues, the U.S. may have to build a special prison row just to house all the felonious and reprehensible priests and ministers. I recommend they name it

"The Ted Haggard/George Rekers Wing".

Wwjd?

Now why doesn’t this surprise me? Well, I suppose the pope will point the finger at the gays rather then his dysfunctional clergy. Hmmm....What Would Jesus Do?

Some more gory details on his expenditures can be found here:

Excerpt:

"He opened credit card accounts for two men he had met - one at a male strip club and another through a male escort service, according to court papers.

One of them racked up $67,000 in charges - including $5,410 for tuition at LaGuardia Community College in Queens.

The other charged almost $50,000 to the card, including Louis Vuitton merchandise and $9,000 in Crunch gym fees.

A third man he met in Central Park said Gray paid for his classes at Harvard, piano lessons and veterinarian bills - claiming he was a lawyer who had won big cases."

I am so TOTALLY sure I have seen this dude at Club 20 ... I just don't get why he needs to OVER-PAY so much. $50,000? No form of sex is THAT good :)

Very disturbing story -- wonder what this does for the agency in New York (Campus)???

The money spent was unbelieveable and more mind-boggling, how he got away with this for so long because there was no oversight of his finances by a lay financial board (more or less required in most parishes). In a wayh, his diocese and the parishioners are just as culpable in this in letting this go on for years.

On the expenses, they too were WAY over the top. No escort I know was ever work that much (unless it was a down payment for freebies). Oddly he seems to have been rooming with one of them whenever he visited NYC, or at least it seems that was the arrangement.

The whole story is creepy and sad.

The vow of celibacy is the vow to never marry.

The vow to refrain from sex is the vow of Chastity.

The Catholic clergy only vow not to have legitimate heirs to the vast fortune. In the past, they accumulated the wealth as leaders of the church before the concept of corporations came into being. The church hated splitting all that gold with the priest's wife and kids and so Pope's lawyer said, If they aren't married, they give no legitimate claim to their families.

Well

I have seen a lot of Wall Street and Main Street bankers do worse things than this priest did but they are fine and living well.. Not all priests are bad... Some of them are really devoted priests who do God's work so let's not generalize.

I hope that Chuck is ok. The gentleman who this thread is about doesn't look like he'd be much into HUGS. At least, that's my hope. ;)

I agree BG.

In fact I doubt this is Chuck at all. Not one article speaks about spending loads of cash in Las Vegas, or any point West or Southwest. We know that our bud Chuck enjoys the west and southwest scene.

Also, if our Chuck is to be believed from his previous posts here and over there he is not as old as the priest that was arrested.

Just an odd coincidence or one is a student of the other - no clue.

Chuck if you are reading this HUGS :)

RockCreekRunr - why you naming it after just the evangelicals? You need to be ecumenical and throw in a Cardinal, Bishop or Priest in the mix.
