Germany Netherlands Spain Uruguay Would think Spain and Germany would be the heavy favorites with the Netherlands a close third. So I guess i will be rooting for Uruguay to go all the way though Germany is my pick to win it all.

Same here. I expect Germany to win but will root for Uruguay. This has been a very surprising series of matches.

The "hand ball" was almost certainly done on purpose. Now as to whether that is cheating or not is another question. If someone does a purposeful "hand ball" they are red carded out of the game and a penalty kick is awarded if appropriate. This all happened. He broke the rule and he paid the price, whether that price was fair or not is another question. Rule infringements happen all the time in all sports and there are penalties for breaking the rules. Cheating is trying to gain an unfair advantage and I grant you that if he was not penalized, Ghana would have every reason to feel cheated. As it was, they missed the penalty kick and then lost on penalty kicks later on. He broke the rule and was penalized as per the rules. Kind of B Madoff who went to jail after breaking the law and then got to keep much of his ill gotten gain. Not an honorable man, but a rich one.

Sorry guys that I have not added anything to this forum for a while (people kept me busy ).

I agree that so far this World Cup has been very surprising. I am fairly certain that Uruguay will not proceed to the final. Both Spain, Germany and The Netherlands have a reasonable chance to make it! It is very hard to determine which teams will be in the final... For some reason Spain has been succeeding but they do not seem to be confident... Had problems in the group stage and almost always won by one goal maximum. Their performance against Paraguay was not very convincing either. So I think, even though this world cup has not been good for the European teams they will make it to the final and I expect a Germany-Netherlands final.

I wish a very HAPPY 4TH OF JULY to everybody!!!

My heart says Spain Netherlands and final victory for Spain. My mind is requested to be quiet but intrudes and says Germany Netherlnds and victory for Germany and strong bitter feelings in the stadium.

By accident I was in Europe this year (Prague) and in 2006 (Amsterdam) for the first rounds of the World Cup. I watched the matches in sports bars in Amsterdam, and on a giant TV monitors in the Old Town square in Prague. If you every have an opportunity to be in Europe or South America during the World Cup, jump at the change. It a wild and exciting experience.

 

My heart is with Holland this year, but I think Germany is just too good.

I was in Prague (same place - old town square) and watched a couple of games right when the European Championship started... The crowd and the vibe was simply awesome... I agree with alanm, that is something you can only experience in Europe or South-America.

Overall, this was facinating series of matches in this World Cup. Spain proved to be the better team on many levels. I'm pleased that they won.

The lost to Switzerland and could have been out in the first round if things had broken differently. Congratulations to Spain. The Netherlands was valiant in defeat but third time they have been second.
