From the Prague Post [EXCERPT]: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 -- [ http://PraguePost.com ]: Emergency workers scrambled desperately on Wednesday to protect Prague's medieval bridges and architecture as flood waters engulfed the historic Old Town, sending residents and tourists fleeing to higher ground. Prague was bracing for the peak of flooding to come Wednesday, as the swollen Vltava river overflowed its banks, submerging streets in several neighborhoods. In the country's largest evacuation operation since World War II, over 200,000 people across the Czech Republic have been forced from their homes. The floods are the worst ever to hit Prague, easily eclipsing the previous record levels of 1890.

On the way back here, I passed a hotel, that was on considerably higher ground than Drakes, with completely dry streets out front, and they were pumping vast amounts of water out of their basement. One must assume that some water will seep into Drakes. However, across the street from this hotel, in the direction of Drakes, I could hear workers in the basement of another building, and it was obvious that they were working on a dry floor. So, we could be lucky. I do not think that there is any possibility that we will be allowed to return to our Prague Buddies Studio [ http://PragueBuddies.com ] for at least two or three, more likely four days. I am sure that we will be off the air tonight as all of the models will be too upset to work. Perhaps tomorrow, we will be able to move one camera over to where I am now and put on a temporary show. That depends on whether the situation gets better and not worse. Right now, the sun is shining outside of my window. That doesn't really matter. What matters is what the weather is like to the South of Prague, where the rains were feeding the river. Sunshine, is hopefully on the way from England. Now, I'll take a quick break and rush right back to prepare today's Newsletter. Thank goodness that we were 'hoarding' shoots. We probably will not be able to get back to shoots for the website this week. Not to worry, we have plenty of material in the can to keep everyone happy and we'll get back to work as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I'll update these pages whenever this anything new to report."

Actually, I always thought Prague was overrated compared to other Eastern European cities like Budapest and the smaller Krakow. But I must admit it is beyond picturesque (it's just the herds of Midwest American fat asses, and the obnoxious ExPats in residence, who spoil it for me), this is a real tragedy.

I have to agree, it is a real tragedy. In advertently, Higgins may be creating a valuable historical document with all his photographs.

According to the bel ami website forum (which is not membership protected so ok to repeat here, I am sure), all the bel ami boys are safe and accounted for. The studio is physically ok for now. But all further productions have been suspended.

Krakow is a real gem. And UNESCO agrees.

 

I toured the Salt Mines there once. And the central square with its unique cathedral is beautiful. A very compact, easy-to-ramble city.

 

Bratislava is another treasure, so often neglected when going abroad.

The history, the architecture, the beauty ... Yes, they are all very important to me (a Houstonian whose city is limping back from a flood itself, though perhaps not quite as bad a one). However, I have many sources from which I can and have been finding out about the other angles on this problem. I rely on this site for news about porn stars and other sex workers. So it is not that I do not care about anything other than whether my favorite porn studios are safe. It is that I ask mainstream news outlets for mainstream news, sex worker outlets for sex worker news, and either Aleuts or skiiers about snow.
