NYTimes reports first-ever Broadway revival of "Funny Girl" in 2012, Bartlett Sher, director of Lincoln Center "South Pacific" revival, at the helm. But he's not working with a "South Pacific" caliber script or score. Times says the original was a hit. It was a hit at the box office, but reviews of the show, if not Streisand, were mixed. I well remember the original. She was unlike anyone else I'd ever seen, but the show was pretty standard backstage story stuff. The first act takes off like a shot and has a strong through line. The second act meanders through Fanny and Nicky's marriage. Except for "People," the score is so-so. And is "People" really a great song?

Times also announced an "Annie" revival. Ho-hum.
