My contract with AT&T is coming to an end this month. I have seen a lot of amazing ads for the new Droid from Verizon. What do you guys think is the best option? Stick with the trusty Iphone, or try the new Droid?

Ok from someone who has had both. The new Droid is fantastic. But I like the iPhone as a whole better. That said atnt was terrible and verizon is Great. When I add the 3 g service available in my area with a great if not the best phone. Droid and verizon win hands down For me

I've heard that Droid does not interface well with MS Outlook. A guy at my office is using it but has not mentioned any issues yet. Verizon is set to get the iPhone some time after September. But given the usual delays with these type of announcements I would not count on it.

OMG! I got a boner in my pants right now, well really shorts, pants are just a figure of speech if ya wanna git all technical and crap!

So I had to order my HTC Incredible; which if I'm not mistaken (& if I am, ryan2552 or NYTomcat can set me straight..but hopefully not too straight!) is the next incarnation of the Droid by Google, but both run on the Android OS? My phone arrives next week and I have pretty much been walking around w/that boner ever since ordering it.

Very excited to get my hands on it (the phone that is, not my boner. I always have a hand on that! or someone else's!) in case you can't tell. The feedback I got from others and the multiple times I played with it in the store, I really liked it.

I, like NYTomcat, love Verizon service. AT&T doesn't work well in Cali epecially in San Diego & San Fran as I've been told by those that do have it. I inquired about a similar topic in another thread here:

that ryan2552 & NYTomcat chimed in on re: the Droid.

Hope that helps somewhat. Will most definitely be giving a full report once I receive and use the Incredible.

Okay, gotta go calm down. Just got home from the gym and between the endorphins I got kickin' and the caffeine I just ingested, I a wee little bit amped up! ;)

Well, take a picture of your shorts situation with your camera phone! :D

Of course, if you had an iPhone, you could post it on Guys With iPhones. ;)

I Love My iPhone

I love my iPhone...have had it for two years and I'm solidly sold. I'll never go back to Sprint (I paid a steep cancellation fee to escape Sprint's awful service). The iPhone enables so much productivity (and fun) in such a small package, not to mention the quality and smoothness of the pics, video, apps and internet! I have heard from friends in NYC and San Fran that their AT&T service is poor--that would be frustrating for sure. However, in my area (New Orleans), I've never had even one dropped call. I'm looking forward to the release of "version 4" of iPhone this summer.

AT&T Is Not For Me---Except That I Have It

hmmm. AT&T sucks in Southern California too. You should hear the guys in WEHO complain about the dropped calls. I get lots of them in Palm Springs too.

They want us to buy our own cell tower for the house at a cost of $150 so they don't have to spend money on more towers.

Had att formy netbook, dropped signal in SF, Seattle & Chicago. They said they didn't know what was wrong. I told them they wouldn't be getting a dime from me. I really like my Palm Pre but I also like the new HTC 4g coming on Sprint next month. It multi tasks, has an expansion slot & has flash.

Hugs,

Greg

If he had an iPhone 3Gs, he could be posting video of that big boy.

Well, here in Studio City, I've got good reception except in the 1st floor of my two-story condo. I talked to the guys at the AT&T store about the Microcell. They explained that I could have it for $150 with a $100 rebate if I signed up for an unlimited Microcell plan for $20/month. Then I could cancel the unlimited plan after I get my rebate with no penalty. Rebates are supposed to take 30 days, so - $150 plus tax - $100 rebate + 1 month at $20, I've got my $70 Microcell and loving my AT&T service EVERYWHERE NOW.

PS. I don't have a problem with my service in WeHO at all. Of course, I'm not inside a multi-story steel framed building either.

If you watch TV very much, you may get the impression that the AT&T network really does suck, but notice that you're watching Verizon commercials. A lot of people who can't afford iPhones pick up that meme and repeat it out of jealousy.

There are problems on the ATT network. I can count the number of times they've inconvenienced me on one hand, but they're there. (Hint: every network has problems. It's in the definition.)

People will complain.

I'm with AT&T because I was with Cingular when AT&T bought them. Made it easy to move to the iPhone. I'm exactly one year into the two year contract and happy enough with the phone and the service not to be looking around. But I also realize that for some people looking for the next phone is the holy grail. They'll never be satisfied and I'm unlikely to be on the hunt.

So Noah I think what it really comes down to is where do you live and where do you travel that you need service. ALOT of NYC hates ATnT because of coverage problems both dropped calls but also the speed. But thats a local issue that may not be a problem where you need it in which case IPHONE all the way. the droid is only slightly less user friendly but if service is not an issue why not go iphone. For me service is killer. NO Atnt in my home, office and calls dropped at three locations in between. I basically could not keep a call for more than two minutes on the commute from home to work. So I phone was not an option.

One of the ironies here is that Apple was lambasted in the press for not taking iPhone orders for any zip code in the NYC area because they *knew* there were network issues at the time.

Facing pressure from the media they caved and started selling iPhones in the NYC area.

Then they were lambasted in the press for performance issues in the NYC area.

Duh.

If wishes were horses ...

Or stick to your guns and don't sell phones.

Alternatively, don't limit iPhones to ATT; I have the impression that the underlying

wireless technology could run on Verizon's network.

It came down to the issue that Verizon did not want to share as much of the revenue with Apple as they demanded. ATT cut Apple a better deal and that's what it got the exclusive.

Arguably, Apple later learned that the ATT network was not as capable of handling the data volume. But I don't think any one carrier could anyway given the heavy usage levels.

Yeah, a lot of pundits and talking heads snuff and whuff about what a bad idea that deal was, but I suspect Steve Jobs is perfectly happy with the money it put in his bank account.

It could be argued that wider acceptance of the iPhone may have swamped Apple's manufacturing capability. Popularity can be a bad problem to have. We may be seeing the result of a very successful controlled rollout. They had lines at the stores but didn't turn away angry mobs.

Hard to tell if any of them could have handled the sudden slam.
