I'm planning to take out my friend's kids for dinner in DC (Georgetown) this week. They are both in college. Do you guys have any recommendation? I would like to take them to a nice place but not so expensive either. It's for a special occasion and their parents asked me to take good care of them. I feel like a nanny~~. Maybe I should dress up as Miss Fine and put on big hair. I have to ask my Duchess how to do that. Please let me know.

Charlie for giving me a starting point~~ You are so sweet. :)

I would suggest Cafe Milano. It doesn't have to be terribly expensive if you are watchful, it is a happening place, the kids will be impressed, and you will likely be there with "somebody". The food is really good but the place has verve. I have had dinner with Colin Powell, Laura Bush, Queen Noor (Lisa Halaby), Wonder Woman, Kevin Costner. Give it a try. For truly wonderful Georgetown restaurant, Citronelle but bring the expense account. If you want to venture out of Georgetown, there are a raft of places n DC. Can I come too! :)

Thank you for your suggestion! You are welcome to join us but you will be dining with very uptight kids. They will try to convert you straight, sadly...

Seafood ?

If you like seafood, there is no better place in DC than Oceannaire. You also may see power brokers, celebs, etc. there... Great food, huge portions to share and only the freshest of seafood. Beautiful "ocean liner" interior... your guys will be impressed there too.

If you are into steak, etc. and want to see members of Congress, go to the Capital Grill. Typical "men's club" atmosphere, dark wood panels, and often some beautiful women, which your college guys will appreciate. Lots of staff who work on Capital Hill go there for "happy hour" too.

A great restaurant in the Dupont Circle area is Tomato. It is a great Italian restaurant at 1701 Connecticut Avenue. You and your college guys can enjoy the eye candy of every stripe, as you will see couples old and young: gay, lesbian and straight. They have nice outdoor seating too.

If you want more suggestions, send me a PM... but you will be able to impress the guys and please their parents with any of the above and you will enjoy any of these three places too.

Consider Founding Farmers, it's incredible and a wonderful atmosphere.

Also Michel Richard's Central. He is the mastermind behind Citronelle but this is his more casual outlet. Order his version of fried chicken if you go there.

Another seafood option would be Hook in Georgetown.

If you want fancy, schmancy then 1789 Restaurant in Georgetown. It's highly rated by many but my thoughts differ from the main crowd in that regard. It can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are that night.

Finally, consider Komi, listed as the absolute best restaurant in DC by many critics. The Obama's visted there in the last two weeks. It's in Dupont Circle on 17th Street, the heart of the gayborhood. I've been there several times and have yet to have a bad meal. Just be preprepared, it's a small space. Chef Johnny Monis is highly regarded by his peers, the ones who'll admit such - you know how egotistical chefs can be some times.

Thanks all

Wow there are so many restaurants in DC. I don't want to embarrass myself and offend them by taking college kids to wrong places they are not comfortable with and they don't like. I think I can decide now. Thanks all. You guys are so sweet~~ Kisses and hugs~~~ :)

Hi Greatness. You've already received some great recommendations, but may I also suggest one of my favorites? "Georgia Brown's" is a delightful restaurant offering Southern "low country" cuisine at its finest: http://www.gbrowns.com/. I'm told that the restaurant opened during the Carter administration-era when so many southerners migrated up to DC and had a hankering for flavors from "down home." Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter frequented the restaurant often. You'll see on the menu appetizers like Fried Green Tomatoes and Cornmeal-Crusted Catfish Fingers. Entrees like "Jambalaya" and "Virginia Peanut Chicket" and, of course, Southern Fried Chicken and Biscuits. Sides like Macaroni and Cheese and Wild Rice Studded Cornbread Stuffing. Georgia Brown's is located just a few blocks from the White House at 950 15th Street, NW (between I and K Streets, NW).

Wherever you take your friends, I hope you guys have a wonderful time. DC is such a great city to visit.

Yummy!

There are so many restaurants in D.C. to choose from! Within a one block radius of my place in Woodley Park, there are 14 restaurants - I kid you not. ;)

Let me recommend a few places that I think are unique, a little trendy, with ambience that college-aged kids may find interesting - but reasonably priced.

There so many other places - but these come to mind. :)

Open Table Restaurant Reservations

Here's a link that might also be of some help to DC bound travelers as well as most major markets.

Open Table is great for researching restaurants and making reservations. Just about all the major players are linked and it's very easy to use.

We've inundated you with DC recommendations. I'll take it a step further. Try Volt in Frederick MD - about 45 minutes from DC with no traffic. Owner and Chef -Brian Voltagio - was runner-up in the recent best chef's contest. Winner was his brother - WHAT A FAMILY - who is head chef at some restaurant in California, Pasadena I think. If you can't make up your mind in DC, it is definitely worth the ride.

Better yet, I'll cook dinner for y'all. Wait to you see what's under the apron. ;)

Now we know why greatness is in DC. Could he be the next director?
