I just finished watching SNL hosted by Betty White. She was amazing. She was in every skit. Did the intros and the sign off at the end. She was sassy, bold, profane and down right funny. She did physical comedy and she delivered the punch lines with expert timing and professional aplomb. I particularly liked the NPR skit "Delicious Dish". Some may recall Alec Baldwin as part of this skit, hawking his "Schwety Balls", a Chistmas treat. Well Betty, as Florence Dusty, was there to extol the virtues of her Dusty Muffin while the NPR radio ladies heaped praise on her hot juicy muffin, not at all dry and yeasty like the muffin of most baker's Betty's age. Even if you are not a SNL fan, or haven't seen it since Gilda Radner left, consider catching Miss Betty White showing off what a trooper is all about.

Betty White's "Dusty Muffin" Skit...

Purplekow, you are right on the money! Betty White was phenomenal on SNL this week. White's age (88 and 1/2 years) was a comedic theme throughout the show. Here's three different links to videos of White's "Dusty Muffin" skit to which PK refers. Hopefully, at least one of these links will stay active on youtube and hulu....and work for you:

I agree. White's performance as SNL host lived up to the media hype NBC generated in promoting tonight's show. imho, Betty White just gets better with age. The dustier the muffin the better! lol.

I've loved White's comedy ever since the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She was so good then that I wouldn't say she's getting better with age but that age hasn't done a thing to slow her down. What an inspiration she is. She made this SNL show one of the best I've seen in ages.

As a fan since the days of the Mary Tyler Moore show, I made a point of watching NBC last evening (a channel I usually avoid), and laughed so loud I nearly choked. Tghe "Muffin" sequence has to be one of the funniest in double-entendre in years. THe two radio hosts playing staight lines to Betty's were also amazing. Great show!

That was the best episode of SNL I've seen in years. What an amazing show, Betty White was fantastic.

The "Dusty Muffin" sketch will become legend in SNL history. It rivals the Alec Baldwin sketch and compliments it in many ways.

I also loved Tina Fey as the census taker asking Betty for information. Her delivery was perfect. Fey was great but I thought she would breakup there for a minute.

And the "Thank You for Being a Friend" appreciation clip was great. That twist when Betty delivered her part had me rolling.

Betty White is a national treasure.

The Reviews are in - Betty White

The reviews are coming out for the Betty White SNL episode. The general consensus is she was great. Though some reviews are taking the contrarian view by pointing out the variation on a theme of age jokes and elderly woman making inappropriate comment skits. But still nearly all say that Betty White Rocks!

Great thing about many of these reviews are the clips.

New York Times

The Boston Herald

Entertainment Weekly

USA Today (The contrarian viewpoint.) :(

USA Today's review sucks balls. I thought she was great and loved her in the census skit. Although I will say one McGruber skit would have been enough.

Well, you know that's SNL. Take a good idea and beat until it's dead. Then beat it some more.

I'm not sure making her perform in every sketch was the greatest idea, and there was a certain repetition to the "have old lady make inappropriate comments" idea.

I think the real beauty of this particular show was bringing back some of their past best female performers to compliment Betty.

I must admit I was looking forward to a take off on either Golden Girls or Mary Tyler Moore, but even without that, the skits were funny. true there is a repetition to Betty White playing an old lady, but the census skit was funny and there wasnt any inappropriate languageand her age was incidental there. MacGruber is always a drag. I suppose they could have had her play sweet in one skit. The Spanish Talk Show was funny and her dancing in that was either tremendously funny or she was way off and it just played funny,

I couldn't stay up for the whole thing - but she was AWESOME!! -- a real pro -- way more comfortable than a most hosts - and that they had so many of the oldies come in for guest spots -- I totally went to "Schwety Balls " PK -- I am totally grinning...

Betty Scores!

According to Nielsen's Media Research, Betty White helped “Saturday Night Live” reach their highest ratings last night since Senator John McCain and Tina Fey appeared on the show 18 months ago. btw, It sure was great to see Tina Fey and Molly Shannon back on the show again last night. I agree that Betty White out-shined all other SNL hosts this season.

It was one of the funniest shows in a long time. I agree that MacGruber went on too long, but I liked the old saucy lady bits. Betty White didn't sound like a crotchety old lady. Rather, she sounded like a sweet lady who has a sharp tongue.
