People Magazine allegedly has the exclusive and the celeb is booked on several major talk shows this coming week including "The View." Word is the celebrity is a female musical performer. The painstakingly planned media blitz is being handled by Howard Bragman, the Hollywood public relations go-to guy for many previous "coming out" celebs. I'm personally very unhappy about the way all of this is going down.

 

This has turned into a media circus with the hype worthy of a mainstream sporting event.

 

The celebrity is participating in this sensationalized commercialization of a very difficult process for most and will be profiting all the way to the bank because of it.

 

For me, it cheapens the difficult path most have traveled to get to this very cleansing and important place in ones life.

 

Treating it like a game show with big monetary payoffs and publicity tours (magazines, talk shows, casino odds, probably a book etc.) and commercializing the process of coming out for profit and likely more fame, devalues the struggle that most have had, and will most likely continue to endure in the future while simply living and leading their simple and ordinary lives.

I lived in Nashville for many years. This is no surprise--it's widely known in the LGBT and music row communities that Chely Wright is gay. There are also at least three other more prominent gay/lesbian country music entertainers (and several well-known song-writers) who are "out" in certain Nashville circles, but they will never voluntarily come out officially & publicly because they know it would be career suicide. Maybe Chely Wright will find her niche by recording a few Melissa Etheridge-like songs and performing at Lillith Fairs and lesbian bars.
