This guy has tweaked my "gaydar" since I first saw him perform a few years ago. So, I was not surprised to find out he went to a gay bar.

But, I was a little disappointed at the lengths he went to claim he didn't know it was a gay-oriented establishment.

However, given his Mormon background and sheltered background, it is plausible he didn't know Club 57 was a "family" place. Or, maybe he's getting ready to join the family???

Cute kid but he just needs to open the closet door. :D

None of us knows his sexual preference. The reason he was there was legit in the sense a friend invited him to watch her perform. However, after a period of time at the club how could he or anybody not know its a Gay establishment?

Maybe he will write more about the experience in his upcoming memoirs as noted in another thread. :p

How does that change anything? Isn't he still there to see his friend perform?

To his great credit, he didn't think anything of it. It was just another night seeing a friend perform UNTIL he realized the next day that people were flapping their yaps and reading too much into it.

It's naive on his part, sure, but it's refreshing. There was a time when a kid his age would have run from the club in terror.

My question is why the club was letting in a minor. Aren't most clubs like that 21/over?

Be careful what you wish for.

If he is gay, I feel sorry for him. First, there's that Mormon thing. Second, there's that father. Third, there's the blood-sucking media. And fourth, there's the incredible pressure he will endure from the music industry suits to keep him closeted. Young gay pop singers lose their screaming girly fans the minute they come out. Business is business.

To be 19-years-old and have all your public actions scrutinized in the press is pure hell. Fame does offer a few opportunities but it strips you of your freedoms, sometimes forever.

My bet is that he is gay - so what - but he probably doesn't know it because "it" doesn't exist in the "Mormon Community".

My experience in the Mormon community is the homosexuality does exist and while the behavior runs contrary to their view of life, gay Mormons are not ostracized but embraced. The 'friction' comes from the conflict between the lifestyles, not the narrow-minded straight Mormons.

The path to hell begins with a single tweet

Oh dear. This most likely would not be the story that it has become had David not felt the need to tweet to the world where he was and why he was there. That fact alone tells me that the fear gears are already turning in that poor boys head.

Whether he's gay or not matters not to me. The fact that he feels the need to broadcast to the world that he is not, at such a young age, is very sad and I'm sure it's for all the reasons that Rockhard has mentioned above.

I have always been very fond of David. How could you not be?

I hope in 5 years he's not a recurring item on Perez Hilton or TMZ - like the Lohan's and the sort. :(

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on gay Mormons being embraced. As a former Mormon and someone who currently lives in Utah, I can tell you that we are NOT embraced.

Outside of Utah I believe there is a more open atmosphere.

However, life within the "Zion Curtain" can be ugly - especially when Mormons teach that homosexuality is the worse sin next only to murder.

I heard he was snuck in by a promoter, but then, instead of sitting in the office like he was asked, went out into the VIP area where he was spotted and recognized.
