I'm on a short visit to Palm Springs to make up for missing this year's hooville event. Last night Lucky, Oliver, Charlie, and I (re)visited Trio, where last month's dinner was held. (They regaled me with detailed descriptions -- I'd blush to repeat them here -- of the shenanigans at Oliver's pool party.)

But I digress. Having seen Joshua Tree National Monument on a previous visit, I asked about other nearby places of natural beauty. Charlie suggested a trip to the Whitewater Canyon Preserve, a place unfamiliar to the other locals at the table. Oliver and I just returned from a 2-hour hike there. Just magnificent! It was worth dealing with my acrophobia to catch the views from the top. The only disappointment was our failure to see any bighorn sheep.

Tomorrow we may go stand on the San Andreas fault in the Coachella Valley preserve (Lucky's suggestion, IIRC). Or maybe we'll go to the outlet mall.

Glad you enjoyed Whitewater. I think it is one of the great unknown beauty spots in the Coachella Valley, but I would like to keep the knowledge to a small group with exquisite taste (like ourselves), so it doesn't get overrun with visitors.
