James Aubrey, who played Ralph in the movie Lord of the Flies, has died at the age of 62. The cause of death is listed as pancreatitis. The Times says: "Mr. Aubrey, whose youthful, intelligent face is both literally and figuratively sullied by the experience, became an emblem of innocence lost."

As I remember the movie, Ralph was not only the guy I was rooting for, he was the cute one too. At the time, I didn't know why that was something I liked.

I remember Piggy as being killed off by Jack's bunch.

All those naked guys running around sure had an impact on the imagination of my confused 9th grade self back in the day. I'm blanking on the name of the hymn [anybody recall? Kerie something???] that Jack's choir sang and which served as the theme music of the movie, but the tune stuck in my head for many years.

I only read the book. But it had a vivid impact on me as an adolescent. I still prefer books to films. I use my imagination more. And the characters never die, like in real life (unless of course they die in the book).

I must confess, after seeing that movie, I wore a pair of smashed glasses around for a few months, hoping that someone like Ralph would come along and take care of me.

But, alas, it was not to be.

Perhaps the beaded lanyard was a bit much.

(RIP James Aubrey. He was a cutie. It was his first movie and he carried his part extremely well.)

I selected Lord of the Flies for one of my 9th grade oral book reports before seeing the movie. After she saw my list, my teacher took me aside and solemnly warned me that some things in it were "not suitable" to be mentioned in class. I must have read the damned thing 3 times hunting for the good stuff. Still not sure what she was warning me about, other than the hunters masturbating over their first pig kill. :)

Kyrie Eleison... Thanks Lucky! I had forgotten the trumpets.

I remember watching that movie in High School. I really never understood that book or the movie.

I remember my main question was.... "If they all went to a 'British Private School' wouldn't they have behaved a lot better instead of going nutz?"

Sad to here another actor has went..... well hopefully it was of natural and peaceful causes. To many people of late died of .... wow.
