This has bugged me for a long time.

 

In the movie "Cruising", Al Pacino asks "Hips or Lips?" of a guy he's about to do something with out in the park.

 

What does this mean?

No worries. It was a pretty bad movie. Pacino was not at all believable, but I liked the dancefloor scenes. By the way, for guys who were active in the 70s: would anyone have ever actually said this?? It is reported that people howled in the theatres when they heard the line.
