I visit strip clubs very often when I travel and see this trend increasing all across the country.

At Madrigals in Chicago a few weeks ago a popular group named Southern Comfort was there. The youngest, and most popular as measured by stage tips, would leave the stage and go straight to the girls...ignoring the men that had tipped. Since there is a no bachelorette party sign as you enter, I thought the owner would probably say something to the dancer. But instead, the next night the girls just returned with their friends and occupied most of the seats around the stage and the bar seats closest to the stage. I tried an experiment and tipped him $20 on stage to see if that would get his attention. He said "I'll come by and see you" when I tipped him but he never did, just stayed close to the girls.

One of my favorite clubs,Unicorn in Indianapolis, seems to have a bachelorette party, plus multiple other females there every time I go.

I commented to one dancer, that I know is gay, that it seemed to be ladies night every time I come in anymore. He said "yea" and that they were instructed by the manager to treat them nice, even though they don't tip well, because they buy a lot of alcohol. Women laying back on the stage with a dollar tucked between her breast, for the dancer to remove with his teeth , is a very common practice.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is a bar in Louisville called Tyrangles. This bar does not even have a Women's restroom and has a sign on both entrances to the only restroom "MEN ONLY". I was there one night when a regular dancer was paying a lot of attention to a group of women. The owner motioned for him, told him that since he wanted to be with the women, to go to the dressing room, get dressed, get his stuff and leave the bar...NOW! Many men there appreciated this very public decision of the owner.

I was also at Campus in Montreal one night when a women walked in, she was quickly escorted out by 2 of Campus' staff. Hooray again for Montreal. I do know that the Montreal bars have one ladies night(usually Sunday) but the guys are still welcome.

Hey there,

Took a day off in Nashville to rest, answer email & catch up<I apologize to everyone...I'm working on it:0)> I was scanning the reviews & eyed the one on Nob Hill about straight chicks taking over the bar. When I was in DC a few weeks ago, Washington Blade ran a big story that week saying that DC strip bar bachelorette parties were getting way out of control & gay patrons were REALLY raising hell! lol I've heard a lil rumble from Atlanta about that too.

So...any patrons out there who've noticed this trend when you are at these clubs? Are these like big haired Chippendale screamers, TRL/MTV Spring Break WOOHOOers or White Trash at a tent meeting types<G>? Most of these strippers are straight--- right? or no?

Just wondered since I've only been to titty bars when I was younger< when your friends are straight rednecks--u just gotta!> So I haven't visited a male strip bar(unless you count a guy queening, up on the bar at Oz:0)) Any observations?

Was just wondering...

By the way if anyone wanders into Nashville for a night. Try the new restaurant/bar--Tribe(http://www.tribenashville.com)-- just down the street from the now defunkt hole--The World's End. Probably the one place I'd recommend to anyone coming to Nashville & wanted to chill with gay folk. Its an over- 21 -place, so you can sit back & relax w/o the glow sticks...nice video screens, sound & the restaurant makes mean BBQ'd shrimp with four cheese grits & roast pork tenderloin in mango salsa.

Thanks for your attention. Back to answering mail...

Moment of Last Week: During dinner at Tribe, its dark and tables are close... they have several video screens pumping in paid music channel gay vids...<that Canadian company>. Place was packed--big table-- mix of Pat Head Summitts & a couple of Jm J. Bullocks(Bf's take on the crowd lol)--- we heard a loud gasp toward the video screens..."Robin Gibb! When did he make a solo album...I thought he was dead. No, Andy is dead. Robin has those teeth! Them big Anita Pointer teeth... I've never heard this song in my life." That was perfect! Much love to the gay hillbillies<g>

Goodnight,

but haven't you noticed that any time women are around stripper the usually are (as SmallTownJohn puts it so very eloquently and I quote)

"big haired Chippendale screamers,TRL/MTV Spring Break WOOHOOers or White Trash at a tent meeting types"

What is it about male strippers that make women lose all control and composure? Have they never seen an almost nude man before? Kathryn, Wnderwoman please comment on this since you are real women with actual vagina's and real breasts. I have always wondered why that is.

One things that I do think is disturbing is the trend for alot of straight women or couples to go to gay bars with the attitude that "we are here for the freakshow". I have no problem with straight people being in a gay bar and I have taken many straight people to gay bars who were genuinely curious and wanted to see what a gay bar is like (some of these people have gone back with me because they did have a good time). I have a major problem with straight people - and I have noticed this is happening more with straight women - coming into a gay bar and mocking, being rude and treating people with an overall disdain for the envoiroment they are in. (Plus the bartenders say that they can tell a person is straight because they do not tip well) If anyone has any insight please comment. (I refuse to believe that all of these straight people with this kind of attitude are closet cases either.)

I really appreciated today's review of the Nob Hill and the insight that was provided. I was at the Nob Hill earlier this year and had a great time. There were a couple women in the audience but, when I was there, the dancers treated all patrons the same. I was a little uncomfortable with women in the crowd but they weren't screamers and didn't interfer with my ability to enjoy the boys.

However, in a recent posting I read that the Nob Hill had stopped bringing in "headliners". Perhaps they are now actively soliciting women in an attempt to fill the seats. I would NOT appreciate being in the crowd where I felt I had to compete with the women.

BTW, I visited The Silverado in Portland this year. They also had several straight women show up to watch the strippers. They too were not screamers and the dancers didn't seem to favor them over the gay guys.

At the Happy Tap in Windsor, Ontario there were several times that the screaming skirts were present. The dancers did seem to be more interested in the women and it was very difficult for a guy to get a lap dance. It really bothered me and I wish the bouncers had kicked the women out. They were very irritating.

If given a choice, I would prefer NOT to see women going into the gay strip clubs. I don't have a problem with a strip club declaring one night a week as "Ladies Night". I think that's preferable to trying to mix gays and straights together. I've been lucky enough to see it work but I'm practical enough to know problems will eventually arise.

RE: Women in gay strip clubs

I was in Toronto during Pride last week and visited Remington's on a regular basis. They post a sign on the outside door stating: "Women allowed Sunday nights". It works great, leaving the other nights for a strictly gay crowd, even though many of the dancers (probably the majority) are straight. One night I observed a group of gay men entering with a woman in their midst and she was courteously but firmly told that it was a male-only night and she would have to come back on Sunday. I too do not enjoy the presence of women in a gay strip club. I've been to the Gaiety in New York on several occasions when women were present and it really seems to inhibit most customers. I guess the bottom line with many of the club owners is to fill the club with customers. Maybe if enough guys complained to the management, they would institute a women-only night and leave the rest of the week for the men. Surely the dancers would appreciate making more tips, since guys tip better than women. By the way, if you are ever at Remington's, check out Ricky and Hugo, two adorable Latino dancers. Yummy. ;-)

RE: Day off, Nob Hill review,

Alas! I have noted the trend of women invaders as well. In fact, at Boxers N Briefs (a totally nude male stripper bar in southern Illinois), the management has taken out ads in the local gay rag encouraging bachelorette parties! The last time I went there, the clientele was about 50% female. I asked a few of the dancers about the rate at which females tip, and he just rolled his eyes toward the ceiling. However, that doesn't seem to stop the dancers from spending most of their time with the women.

I do have a question about San Francisco - the Nob Hill reviewer said to go to Blow Buddies instead. What and where is Blow Buddies, since I am planning a trip to San Francisco in August.

RE: Day off, Nob Hill review,

Blow Buddies is a sex club. I believe that there website address is

http://www.BlowBuddies.com and by pickign a Bay Area Reporter they would have an ad in there and the address.

If you are going to Blow Buddies, DO NOT WEAR ANY KIND OF COLOGNE AT ALL! They will not let you in. Try to use unscented soap. They say that the smell of cologne "ruins the atmosphere of the club" but for some reason body odor does not. Go figure. It is a good time. It is in an old warehouse with various levels and rooms and glory hole. There have been a few porno movies filmed in there so there is a chance that you have actually seen Blow Buddies but did not realise that was it. (After all, who reads the credits.) A trip to San Francisco is not a trip there without going to Blow Buddies.

RE: SF Suggestions

>...This is helpful info for someone going to the big SF for the first time!

Hope you don't mind more suggestions concerning SF. [ul][li]Avoid The Campus. The place is a stinking dive and in the worst part of town.[li]Don't rent a car if you're staying in the city. Parking is impossible, the hotels charge extra for a parking space, and the transit system is FANTASTIC. [li]Cheap tickets for nightclubs & theatre events are available in the parking lot at Union Square. Lots of great night life to experience. [li]Discounts to other places such as museums, parks, etc. are available at the tourist center near the Market/Powel BART station.[li]Be sure to get a copy of Bay Area Reporter (BAR). Get source of info in gay events. [li] Stay away from the "tourist trap" places and go to some of the many neighborhood bars. They're very friendly and much more fun than some of the well-advertised places. [/ul]Hope you have a good time!

RE: SF Suggestions

Perhaps the male dancers hang out with the women after their set due to some insecurity on their part. Some may be straight, or just not that "out" as a gay male. Of course getting tips from men is fine, but he probably hangs with the women afterwards as it affords some protection of his machoism.

In a few years he will be in the audience tipping dancers.

The comments above about SF are right on. Don't rent a car, unless you want to take a trip out of town, Marin, Napa wine country, Carmel, etc. Parking is a challenge. Since SF is small, taxi rides are quite reasonable.

Not sure your range of hotels, but a nice one i recommend is Argent Hotel. It is downtown in the financial district, which is dead at night, but most things are a short taxi ride.

RE: SF Suggestions

I will be going to SF the weekend of the 19th. I ended up getting my room thru priceline. Park Hyatt on Battery st. $70 a night, with the money I will be saving I will be spending on appropriate attire to be allowed into the lobby.

Since I will be spending some time (well alot actually) at the Nob Hill Theater and Campus, I am curious how the tipping works. There are a couple of guys that I want to see & plan on giving way too much money to, while some of the guys are not my favs and I don't want to walk out on (that seems a little rude). I also don't want to give just a dollar either since what they do is not something I would do for a buck.

So, I'm curious, how much would be appropriate to acknowledge the guy (maybe rub his chest a little), yet still not be a cheapskate? I would like to enjoy all the place (Nob Hill Theater) has to offer considering the high admittance fee and not feel obligated to give every guy $20 that gets on stage. While I'm allowing myself a rather generous tip allowance, this weekend still has its monetary limits.

Thanks,

Mike

PS. Sorry to highjack this thread.

RE: SF Suggestions

Mike, when I was in SF a few months ago, I did not go to the Campus. I heard nothing but bad things about it so I did not check it out. I plan on going back out there early next year so maybe I will go then.

As for the Nob Hill, there is a $30 entrance fee to the theatre part ($20 if you purchase your ticket before noon) You do have all day in and out privelages for the theatre so you could buy your ticket early in the day and then come back a few hours later if you wish.

In the lobby of the theatre there is a schedule with a picture of the dancer that is performing at that time. Their web site, http://www.nobhilltheatre.com does have a schedule on it as well and it looks like they are starting to put feature performers back on their stage. If you like the 2 pm dancer but do not like the 2:30pm dancer but want to see the 3 pm dancer you could either hang out in the arcade downstairs or go back and watch the shower show or if you really like the dancer, ask him if he is available for a private show. The Nob Hill has three very large booth's where you can engage in a private with the dancer. Depending on the dancer, a private could go for anywhere between $50 to $100. (The room does cost the dancer $10 to rent.)

As for tipping the dancers, as the announcer says "the bigger the bill the bigger the thrill". Some dancers will let you orally service them and others will let you play with them but will only let oral happen back in a private room. If you want to go down on a dancer, I would say shell out the money for the private show. You would be guarenteed a performance there where if you pass the dancer a $20 and expect to suck his dick in the audience he might easily say, "No, I only do that in the private booths" The theatre is dark so the dancer really would not be able to see what you are putting down his sock. (That is where they put there tips.) The more you tip the longer your lap dance would be and the more often they would come back to you, depending how many people are in the audience.

One word of advice, try to sit in the back few rows. As the dancer walks through the audience, a big red spotlight shines on him and the person he is giving a lap dance to. That can be a little annoying.

RE: SF Suggestions

Thanks for the info mmk.

I'm glad to know that the privates are in the 50-100 range, I thought they would start at 100 and go up from there. I will definately sit in the back also. Especially since the ladies prefer the stage area.

The reasons for my going to the Campus is that a couple of the guys from the Nob Hill dance there, the admission is lower & from their website it mentions they have computers so I can check my email. From the reviews I have read of the place, I'll probably only go once.

RE: wonderwoman responds

Wonderwoman? How sweet. Ok, my take on the "out of control" woman patron is that the majority of women that frequent these places are severely lacking to say the least. Stereo-typing that all women behave like this is insulting. I am not certain why, but I almost feel compelled to apologize for my own gender on this topic. The only thing that I can really say is "It wasn't me".

RE: wonderwoman responds

awwwwww my bad! I did not realize that there was another female poster here. See what happens when I go on vacation for such a long period of time. I think I am up to speed now though. I also wanted to add that I dont personally think that women should be raising hell at the strip clubs that cater to the gay clientel. I agree that perhaps it is the almighty dollar that draws the club owners towards allowing the women to be in there in the first place. I must admit that I never got off on going to strip shows, either gay or straight! A personal strip tease might be a different story though.;)

Those crazy women

>What is it about male strippers that make women lose all

>control and composure? Have they never seen an almost nude

>man before? Kathryn, Wnderwoman please comment on this

>since you are real women with actual vagina's and real

>breasts. I have always wondered why that is.

Sorry to respond so late, mmk, I've been at a strip club all weekend. Only kidding!

I've responded to this earlier in another thread. I'm not really a bar/club person and the thought of being carried along in a throng of screaming women watching guys strip is rather sickening to me. (I like my encounters with men on a one-on-one basis or maybe a 3-some at most). And I have to agree with Kathryn: I almost feel like apologizing for those dimwits. Most women don't act this way...I think that the women you refer to assume that they have to act this way at a strip club. They just end up looking like fools.

There are hicks in every town - male and female - and straight people (males and females) who can't act civilized in a gay bar are hicks. I like the idea of the previously mentioned clubs that advertise for once a week women's nights.
