Megan Mullally Departs Lips Together

http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Megan_Mullaly_Departs_LIPS_TOGETHER_TEETH_APART_20100324

Megan Mullally left the production of Terrence McNally's Lips Together, Teeth Apart at the Roundabout. The first preview performance has been cancelled and the show is in the lurch while a suitable replacement is found.

Must have been a hellava fight!

Too late, Lucky, I already read the Times review. NY Post liked it too. I still stand by my opinion. It was dreadful!

Alos in today's NY Times the story behind Megan Mullalley's departure from Lips Together, Teeth Apart. Shame they cancelled the production.

In other news, I saw It's All About Me last night. Broadway worthy? I don't think so. It was an amusing show and I certainly like Michael a lot but together with Dame Enda, it made for a strange combo. I have been told the show is in trouble. If last night's audience is any indication, my sources are correct. The orchestra was only 50% full, or empty, depending on your outlook. The Henry Miller Theater (soon to be renamed the Stephen Sondheim Theater) has been lovingly restored and is a comfortable and beautiful space. Oh how I remember the old notorious gay porn palace and the disco Xenon back in the day!!!

Saw American Idiot this afternoon and really enjoyed it. It's Spring Awakening on steroids

and truly rocks.

A number of SA alumni are involved - Michael Mayer the director, cast members, etc.

If you're into rock or Green Day it's for you.

If you think rock died with Bill Haley and Green Day has something to do with a giant,

stay home.

I saw Broadway by the Year: 1948 last week at Town Hall. Rather fun. Bobby Steggert was a standout for his singing ability and his looks. He's starring in Yank, which I will not get to see. Anyone know anything about him? He's dreamy as they once said.

Dame Edna is funny as always. Can't wait for La Cage and Promises with Kristen Chenowith.

American Idiot

The rumor is that all three members of the band Green Day have been attending every preview of their musical "American Idiot."

I am seeing "Yank" and "American Idiot" on Saturday. That might be the final day for Yank, not sure.

Green Day's 2004 rock opera "American Idiot" sold five million copies in the U.S. So as with "Spring Awakening," AI should have a lengthy run on Broadway.

Should be an interesting audience. I like the show's stars, John Gallagher, Jr. and Stark Sands, from seeing them in other shows

I may be in the minority on this, but I saw "A Behanding in Spokane" last week, and I had a fine time. It's a dark comedy, and very, very funny. Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell are terrific, and it's clear that they too are having fun.

And "Red", with Alfred Molina as Mark Rothko, is a beautiful play which deals with how artists create. An endlessly fascinating question, and wonderfully explored here.

Go see both.

I think you can tell from my comments that I did not feel shortchanged in the least. When the 90 minute show first arrived on Broadway, I did feel that it would be shortchanging audiences. But, like most things, it depends on the show. Gods of Carnage was 70 minutes, and, even thouugh I liked it, I did feel shortchanged.

Yet for Red you hit the nail on the head. There is so much mental work required in enjoying the show, that 90 minutes proves long enough. My head was too full of excitement by then to keep going! (Your mileage may vary!)

All About Me To Close Sunday

There won't be too many tears shed when this show closes on Sunday. The NY Times reports today that business has been miserable and the show has been performing to less than 50% of capacity.

I saw it last week and thought it a waste of talent and time. I didn't hate it but thought it not a Broadway-worthy show.

It, too, runs about 90 minutes, no intermission.

AND...yeah! Finally! A seperate Arts thread! Good choice! Bravo!
