Disgruntled figure skater Plushenko clearly hasn't come to grips with the fact that the gold medal eluded him in Vancouver. He has officially awarded himself the Olympic Platinum Medal.

... He has officially awarded himself the Olympic Platinum Medal.

Hmmm - perhaps he is related to a certain "international" escort (he who shall remain nameless) who was not named Escort of the Year, or even honorable mention.

Oh my... there is a certain je ne sais qua that is reminiscent. I just can't put me finger on it. Perhaps in a more natural setting

Plushenko is behaving like a spoiled child, and CERTAINLY not like an Olympic athlete.

But perhaps it's cultural. The Russian ice dancing pair is also complaining about unfair judging (although IMO they also presented second-rate performances).

Hold it...

DEAR ATHLETES,

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY YOU SHOW ANY ELATION AT YOUR RECENT VICTORY.

That's priceless, Oliver. As they say, ROFLMAO. Our certain someone got a timeout for his petulance, perhaps Plushenko will get the same! What a putz.

Delusions of Grandeur, Indeed!

Plushenko just can't accept that his technique wasn't clean and sharp, in contrast to the winner's! He needs to look at the scorecard and learn from it. He got gigged for execution, even if he did land a quad. It's a case of quality, not quantity. He should clean up both of his acts, or stay home. What an ego he has. Get over yourself!

Arrogance is Ugly.

His skating was sloppy, he's unattractive, he's a cry baby, and a classless embarrassment to his sport. He looks so much like my neighbor's white ferret, but the ferret whines less. Dude: grow up, stop crying, put your big-boy drawers on, get a nose job and shave your mullet. Somewhere a Russian Village is Missing it's Idiot!

Goodfella

To be honest, Plushenko was retired for three years and came back into competition specifically to win a second gold. "Just like Dick Button" he's been quoted as saying.

In the years he was gone, the rest of the skating world adjusted their routines to take advantage of the new scoring system and Plushenko didn't. It's entirely possible that his quad would have won gold under the old scoring system, and it's also possible that under today's scoring system he wouldn't have won gold in Torino.

He's trying to live in the past.

I'm actually glad to see figure skating rewarding skaters who actually, you know, skate figures.

Deej, you hit the nail on the head.

With Putin now pushing for an all-our rout by the Russians in Sochi, the Vancouver Games were being touted as a sort of out-of-town try-out.

In a country that really prides itself (or better... "prided itself") on some of the best ice skaters -- individuals and pairs and amazingly good coaches -- in the world, it is a rude awakening to see the 21st Century version as a very pale shadow of the former selves.

Their best coaches have all fled to the West (and are prominently on display coaching some of the best skaters now in North America as well as in Europe), and their skaters?? Many have opted for duel citizenship to vie for titles on other teams. And who would blame them?

So, after Evgeny Plushenko retired after Torino, they really had no "stars" left in the corral and with the financial mess that has been created creating an Olympic Village in Sochi (better known as a summer resort... during Soviet times...), now they have to come up with medal winners. No one was on the horizon and so pressure was placed on Evgeny to come out of retirement. He did, but with too little time to get back up to his Olympic level of 4 years ago, and as has been stated by so many, he is seemingly oblivious to the new rules of men's figure skating. And yes, he did the Quad... once... but the rest of the program was no where near his past ability.

The same with the Russian pairs dancers. rankly I feel they deserved FOURTH place but am suspicious the judges feared that one... Putin's revenge is legend and reaches way beyond the borders of Russia (Uranium tea anyone??) These are international judges and can be dealt with "later" -- and relegating the Russians off the podium would have been too much for the pairs.
