Have any of you men caught an STD from an escort. How much should I rely on an escort's representation that they are disease free? I always intend to play safe but recognize you can catch some STD's simply from kissing or giving a guy a blow job. What's the conventional wisdom here? I am new to the scene and need some guidance from you pros!

Escorts do not live in a bubble; they interact with clients. If an escort gets an STD, where do you think he probably got it from? A client. I've been very lucky (knock woody), am as careful as one can be, and get checked (neurotically) often. But I am always irritated (yes, easygoing me) when this topic comes up (and it pops up every so often) because of the inference that if an escort has an STD, he got it magically just from being an escort. You get an STD from another person and STD's don't discriminate between clients & escorts. So...your question should really be: "Have any of you ever caught an STD from another man?"

Thanks, deej...hey, I totally forgot! I wanted to end my post by referring to your thread "What was he THINKING?????" That thread is a perfect companion piece to this one.

Rick, your point is well taken. My main concern is, regardless how or from whom you catch an STD, I would hope an escort would not schedule an appointment with a client if he had an std, and if he learned about the std after meeting with a client, he would at least let the client know. I am operating under the assumption that the men who escort are professionals and would pass the information on to their clients. By the same token, I would never meet with an escort if I had an std, and would certainly notify him if I learned about it after our meeting. Thankfully, I have never contacted an std and want to keep it that way. In any event, thanks for you reply.

The point is well taken that you can get a STD from anyone. It does not discriminate.

However, there is the issue that gay male escorts are a relatively high risk group (more so then men in general). A man that lives a straight life in the burbs with his wife, and sneaks a bit of gay sex once is much lower risk than an active gay male escort how could have 10 or more contacts in a month.

Most escorts (especially the ones here) are smart enough to take care of themselves and avoid risk. Some current STD's are easier to catch than HIV, and can still be transmitted even though condoms were used.

Since one of the things you pay us for is our discretion, I myself get rid of all my notes on a client - email address, phone number, etc. - fairly quickly after the session. With my astounding memory for numbers, hah, I can maybe recognize your phone number if it turns up on my caller id without a name attached, but as far as remembering it unaided?? My point being that if I discover I have an STD, I won't escort til I'm healthy again, but don't count on me calling my recent clients to tell them, since I might not have any way to do that.

Rock, I think the point that Rick and deej were trying to make is that escorts run a far greater risk of contracting an STD from clients than do clients from escorts. As Rick says, you have to get it from someone, and a successful escort has sex with more clients than any one of his clients does with escorts.

Doubtless there are plenty of escorts who are careless about checkups, about their health and the health of their sexual partners. However, I think you'll find that the reputable escorts on this site, those who have numerous reviews by clients who post here often, are far more likely to be reliable sex partners even than somebody you might meet at a party or at work. And they are certain to be more reliable than men seeking casual sex or street trade.

Without exception the escorts I have been with are noticeably healthy. Not only are they clean inside and out, they have good skin, hair, and teeth, and they fairly glow with the kind of health that's enhanced, though not created, in the gym. (For the most part I am not attracted to heavily-muscled men who get that way through steroids and pay in the price with their complexions.)

I know as well as anyone that the appearance of good health is no guarantee. However, I've always been struck by the sort of "glow" that my escorts have had; and as I keep up with them all, I know that in their case the appearance of good health was a sign of their true condition.

Finally, remember that this is their livelihood. Escorts are as likely to be as fussy about their health, and especially about STDs, as nurserymen are about sunlight and water for their plants.

Or, woman, for escorts and clients who sleep with women. Remember, women can carry all sorts of "nasties" and harbor them unknowingly.

Sad, but abstinence is the only true way to avoid STDs....

In my case, Will, I have to give credit to the counterperson at Kiehl's for making me see how manly it can be to moisturize. :p

I don't know whether Rick was trying to imply that escorts are more likely to get an STD from a client than vice versa. That doesn't make much sense to me, however. What makes sense to me is that anyone who has sex with a lot of different partners is more likely to get an STD. So is a man who has sex with a man who has many different partners. That makes both escorts and frequent clients of escorts at higher risk of getting an STD.

That being said, IF you believe that escorts generally have many more sex partners than clients have sex partners, then it is logical to conclude than when an escort gets an STD, he is more likely to spread that to more people (including clients) before he recognizes he has an STD and gets it treated. A client who may have sex with only one or a few people in a month's time simply has fewer "opportunities" to spread an infection than someone who frequently has a different sex partner every day.

Most escorts that I know get tested for everything at least once or twice a year. In 11 years of escorting, I've NEVER had an STD. I attribute this not to luck, but to the fact that I have very little extracurricular sex. I don't frequent bathhouses. I don't go out to bars and trick with a different guy every week. My non-escort friends who are promiscuous are much more likely to contract an STD than I.

In my case, the only STD I ever had was a skin infection, Molluscum Contagiosum which I almost certainly got from one or another escort last Fall. It is relatively harmless, and not permanent like warts, but painful to remove by laser given its "strategic" location. What is scary about it, is that it is transferred by direct skin to skin contact, not exchange of fluids so it is almost impossible to avoid, and with lights off almost impossible to detect. I advised the Agency of my believed source of the infection, and it took about 6 weeks for the escort to be renewed. When I called anonymously to check last week, I was told that he is still seeing "regulars" but not new clients. How nice!? Have any of you escorts ever had this, or been tested for this? My dermatologist told me this is one of the fastest growing STD's in the country, but I almost never see it discussed.
