There are so many excellent restaurants in the City that it's hard to pick just one. Here are current favorites:

Etcetera Etcetera: (http://www.etcrestaurant.com/index2.htm) (reservations are a must)

Essex (http://www.essexnyc.com/) I recommend the brunch -- reservations are also must.

Cafe Frida (http://www.cafefrida.com/Home.htm) -- the margaritas and the guacamole are to die for. It's kind of cramped, but it's worth a trip the Upper West Side, IMHO.

Ruby Foo's (http://www.brguestrestaurants.com/restaurants/ruby_foos_times_square/index.php); it's the only restaurant where the server asks: "Are their any food allergies that we need to know about?" I have one so that's much appreciated. (It even specifies the allergy on the check.)

Last but not least, I always seem to wind up at the Delta Grill (http://thedeltagrill.com/).

Like I said, it's really hard to choose. I'm sure that my suggestions will be different the next time that someone asks.
