For all the Dominick Dunne fans out there......

 

I bought his new (and last) book - Too Much Money - the day it was released (Dec 15) and finished it the same day. Great gossipy read in the true DD style. He outs himself as a closeted gay through the character of Gus Bailey who is obviously Dunne himself.

 

I enjoyed it so much I bought five additional copies to give as Xmas pressies.

I see Edmund White has a new memoir City Boy: My Life in New York in the 1960's and 1970's that seems interesting. Has anyone here read it yet?

Oops! I thought Lucky was reviewing Boy Toy and failed to read the last line. I'm not big on mysteries, even gay ones. I hope he will overlook my blunder and let us know his take on City Boy.

He won't. Mistakes are not tolerated. However, for the rest of those interested:

 

I tried to read White's autobiography but just couldn't care about what he was saying or how he was saying it.

But I opened City Boy because life in New York always fascinates me, and especially gay life in the 60's and 70's, a period when I would like to have been there.

White, of course, is a good writer, and this book completely different from the autob. Besides lots of peeks at sex in those days, we get a multitude of anecdotes about famous writers and other New York glitterati. White does a good job of skewering himself at points. As a vicarious experience, it's pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot. As I said above, for those who missed it!
