I was reading a thread started about NYE and felt a bit sad after doing so.

It seems that most people think the time of our life has past - that its only reserved for youth. Getting old isn't always fun but does that mean we will not have the opportunity to experience the time of our life? Have it already done so therefore not much excitement to look forward to?

Wondering what you guys think?

Palm Springs Confidential

Oh Ryan. Come to Palm Springs, where gay men live their golden years at the gym and at the pool, drink in hand. I'll bet every damn one of them wishes he was at least ten years younger!

Well, at least some do. You should see the outfits they wear at the gym.

On the other hand, many older men are much more satisfied with life now that they don't have to worry about looking pretty. Or is that too harsh?

Well, any way you cut it, I think that most men want to be younger, and consider their prime years to be their younger years. And here I am talking about guys over 60. This golden years stuff is crap when you are gay!

I think when you stop doing useful things with your life, then it is pretty much over. Age is not the governing factor, attitude is. Of course it helps to have good health and a good income but to a large extent these are things that with some careful planning, luck and perseverance, might be expected in the course of things.

Getting older sucks in some ways, especially when you notice that your body is not capable of things that you used to do. On the other hand, emotionally and intellectually you should be stronger if you have taken the time to nourish these sides of your personality.

I am 62 and while I look back on the decades with a fond remembrance of times past, I look forward to the future for whatever it holds with anticipation. In my own case, I have just bought a lovely old house in a small town that I have lots of plans for and I have only been in it for two days. I enjoy all the young folks that have been by to look at things like the electrician today, yesterday the alarm guy, and I have still to look forward to the plumber and who knows what else!

One of these days I might get around to writing my memoirs. I'm sorta waiting till the main characters die off so they can't sue me. In the meantime I am adding chapters in my mind!

How right you are! Grandpa does whitewater rafting works for me. Just strap my rocking chair to the raft and let her rip.

L2P-

Your post reminds me of the joke about the couple in their late 80's who bickered and fought all the time. Once, after a big fight, someone asked them why they stay married if they couldn't get along any better. Their reply was, we are waiting for the grandkids to die.

Best regards,

KMEM

Dwelling on age is a complete waste of time - each and every day is a joy for me! I only wish I had more time to experience all the things out there, but I have a life time of experiences that only get greater and greater. I have a group of friends that extend in age from one year to ninty plus and I wouldn't trade a one of them. Age is irrelevant to me - I simply enjoy each and every day.

Don't Agree About Getting Older

This morning I'm older than I've ever been. I'm also happier than I've ever been. I'm happier because I've made a much better life for myself than the one I had when I was in my teens, twenties and thirties.

I worked hard and sacrificed in those years and it has paid off. I've overcome many obstacles. Anyone in America even without a good education nor a head start from your parents can still make a dream come true.

I am in a better position to contribute to society and help others. To me, life is getting more rewarding. Don't stop contributing and you won't stop getting satisfaction.
