After about a year of being constantly on the road...I savor times like now where I have a kitchen and can microwave a frozen package of Lean Cuisine's Ravioli instead of having to go to some restaurant and paying for something that could end up being a bunch of fluff and nutritionally void.

I'm laughing to myself as I enjoy this delicacy of a frozen meal. :p

Isn't it hard to eat and type at the same time - or are you truly ambidextrous?

I know what you mean. though im not the fan of the frozen meal. sometimes its nice to have something plain and simple. When you're on the road its hard to just get a bowl of cereal, or better, have breakfast for dinner. sometimes I just want some eggs, not another overdone meal.

Cute. I wish...but, my right hand is favored in strength. :)

Took a bite...set down the cheap plastic bowl of food...picked up laptop and put in on my lap to chew as I typed. ;)

Absolutely. Don't know how it is where you are...but I know that in Manhattan it's nearly impossible to find certain frozen meals I've come to love. The Stouffer's frozen chicken, penne, squash in a bag...and the family size lasagna by Stouffer's; nowhere to be found.

For a while I was traveling with a portable cooking dish...about 10 x 10 x 4. As well, a large part of one of my suitcases were designated as the "pantry" so when I arrived into a city I already had pasta, sauce, etc for when I got hungry. That got so burdensome...and the space wasn't justified in my suitcase. Now I'm thinking of finding a miniature rice cooker and just mixing in some vienne sausages for an occasional simple meal. One of my friend's back in university who was Asian did that a lot in his dorm room. Quite tasty, easy, and very nutritional (carbohydrates without the fluff).

Ready Meals

My culinary skills are not that great and I became largely reliant on 'ready meals' when I lived in London. Fortunately, every supermarket there, but especially Marks & Spencer and Waitrose, had a large selection of, mostly non-frozen, microwavable meals. They were tasty, packaged in portions which satisfied your appetite and many had decent nutritional value including enough protein and vegetables. They were also sold for not that much more than it would cost you to buy the ingredients to cook from scratch. I've been having a hard time adapting since I came back to Canada. I find the selection of frozen meals very limited, overpriced, bland, the portions insufficient, and the nutritional value very poor. So, I've been endeavouring to cook again, with mixed success! :o

If I was to list my diet I'm sure the gasps would start. :) That said, my ULTIMATE favorite quick meal is the most delicious, tasty, juicy and oh so big Angus Burger from McDonalds with a super sized fry (I think they call this large size now) and a Dr. Pepper to wash it all down. Sorry Mr. Big Mac but you're been replaced though I will always remember you fondly. If I'm lucky, I will put down a cherry pie as well but McD's pretty much as removed that from their menus except for certain cities.

Mark, I don't know whether you have Fresh&Easy markets in Canada, as we do now in California. They are a division of Tesco, and provide some of the same prepared non-frozen meals that I loved to buy at Marks&Spencer in Covent Garden.

While I enjoy the luxury of being married to a culinary school graduate, I occasionally heat up a Stouffers Chicken Alfredo Flatbread Melt when he isn't speaking to me...er, when I am hungry for a snackl

When he isn't speaking to you, can he cook for me? ;)

Right!

Michelangelo's frozen Italian dinners (eggplant parmigian, lasagne, etc.) are the industry standard, IMHO. I pop one in the microwave at least once a week.

They're the best! YUM YUM and oh yes, YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!

Traveling and Eating

As a frequent traveler (sales not escorting) I have found just walking into a grocery store or a Super Wal-Mart (oy-vey!) I can purchase prepared meals, fruits and vegetables to furnish my hotel rooms for the duration.

Not only is the food less expensive, it's fresh, healthy, and in reasonable proportions (as compared to the volume serving restaurants.)

Plus I eat less when I'm buying in a store - momma raised a plate cleaner here.

oh my

You are eating like that but you have such a hot body. Last time I read your favorite snack was french fries with mayo.. What's your secret? Are you trying to make us feel better? If I eat like that then I would gain so much weight that someone has to lift me up out of the bed. :)

I know the feeling greatness. wish I could get away with that, lean cuisine is more the menu I have to live on. At least we are in the right place to hire that hot guy to help us out of bed.
