Today is World Aids Day. Remember your results are only as accurate as the day the blood was drawn. Just because you tested neg 3, 6, 9 or 12 months ago does not mean you are negative today.

I hope that World Aids Day means more than just checking your own status. It's a day to remember those we have lost. They were guys just like you and me who cared about their gay world, enjoyed their newfound liberties, and got caught by an unknown virus that took their lives prematurely. RIP

World Aids Day

Remembering those who we have lost, certainly, but also raising awareness,

understanding the facts, educating, fighting prejudice and protecting yourself

and others from spreading the virus not only on World AIDS Day, but every single day !

Play safe and sane. There is still no cure.

You are right it is more then checking ones status but getting tested is and should be part of it as well. But I think that too many people live with a false hope when they state in their profiles that they are clean and tested on X/XX/XXXX. Great that they are getting tested but like I said before the results are only as good as the day the blood was drawn. What in their lives has happened in the previous months? Just sayin.

Yes, today is World AIDS Day, and I thank Seaboy for initiating this thread.

All media should do today as it did some 10 years ago. On most of the progressive television channels-- programs regarding HIV/AIDS ran throughout the day! What do we have this day? Apathy!

Apathy? I think not.

I do not know which radio stations you are listening to or T V channels you are watching but I, for one, have heard the ads at least ten times today and I am in a foreign country.

Furthermore, on CNN I am aware the spots for World Aids day were aired periodically throughout the day. I suspect there were few, if any, on Fox News.

Time Warner Cable in New York carries two gay channels, Logo which is commercial and Here which is subscription. I was watching a rerun of an episode of Queer As Folk on the Logo at 11PM; and, when it ended, I switched to the Here network. At the stroke of midnight Here began a rebroadcast of wonderful show of remembrance hosted be Leslie Jordan. It was a poignant and appropriate way to begin World AIDs Day.

Thanks Seaboy for this good reminder. And thank you for being helping to remove the stigma of HIV and helping to foster openess about HIV and AIDS.

And just for further clarification if ones test is negative it doesn't mean they were HIV free even on the day of the test. Wikipedia says the average window of detection for certain tests is 22 days. But if I remember correctly it can be significantly longer though certain tests can reduce the window considerably.

Here in Chicago there is an effort in certain cases to shorten that window. At a local clinic they ask if you expect the results to be negative or positive etc. Normally I say I expect the results to be negative. But one time a regular client tested positive and called me to tell me. Even though we always used condoms the fact that he hadn't recently had sex with anybody else was enough to make me worry and get retested. When I mentioned this concern the clinic decided to also do a viral load test. Luckily my tests were all negative and the clients initial test turned out to be a false positive.

Many times I have gotten together with someone for sex and they have asked to fuck without condoms trying to convince me by even showing me their printout of a recent negative test. The HIV test "window" is one of the reasons that I never make an exception about condoms for anal penetration.
