You are so considerate

to check on other MF members. You have such a warm heart.

I'd send this as a private message, but I like the cryptic postings that raise questions without answering them.

Private Messages mean a lot

Lucky, You raise a good point. Some of us might not know the email address of a member and this site provides an inbox for "private messages" which are on a personal level.

Over the years I've used it to contact members who appear to be MIA. It's a thoughtful way of letting them know they are missed and you've been thinking of them.

Threads that begin with "WEHT" or "Are you OK?" can put someone on the spot to reply or make them feel uncomfortable giving the real reason. Sending that member a private message can reduce that risk.

Recently, I reached out to a member through a "private message". He shared with me his personal hardship, not something he cared to post on the m/c. He wanted me to know that he was doing ok but needed time to resolve some issues.

Private messages mean a lot to some members. It's a good way of discussing personal issues off the m/c and in a more private/caring way.

Since the question I raised was not in reference to a private, personal matter, I felt no need to pose the question in a private message. In fact, the thread I created to ask the question ended up taking a couple of interesting side tracks of its own and allowed one member to indicate his own connection with and interest in aviation.

On the very many pilot forums available on the web, a quick "You ok?" message can often be found after an accident at a pilot's home airport. I am not aware of KMEM's participation in any of the forums that I occasionally look in on and I am unlikely to participate in any of those that I suspect might appeal to him; consequently, I was unable to pose my question in any other forum.

Frankly, in light of the highly decreased volume of traffic in this incarnation of the Message Center, one would think that virtually any new thread would be welcomed with open arms. Unfortunately, it appears that one would be incorrect.

Boston Guy, your thread was too cryptic to be of use to anyone. You said that you had seen the news. Oh. We were all supposed to know what you saw and what you meant? It was a direct inquiry to KMEM and thus more of a private message. And, as has been pointed out, you could have just checked to see that he had posted since the accident.

Not that I am trying to discourage you from having concern for your fellow members. This one just didn't work well.

I dunno: it answered the question, spawned two separate discussions, and revealed an unknown interest on the part of another member. I'd say that it worked out pretty well indeed for a simple question.

I will admit that the original post may not have been obvious to a non-pilot but it became clear within a very short time. Sometimes patience really is rewarded.

YMMV.

Not sure how other members view this but I prefer the quality of a post/thread over the quantity.

I agree. But it seems to explain the intent of the original post.

I am quite comfortable with the "quality" of the posts that I have contributed to the Message Center in all its incarnations. All of my posts are easily available through the Search function, as are yours. Anyone who wishes to compare can do so with little effort.

That's debatable. "You ok?" is definitely personal, but it's really a pretty pointless debate.

So you got taken to task by schoolmarm Lucky. Big deal. Wear it as a badge of honor. Lucky gets pissy at everybody.

HOWEVER...

Frankly, in light of the highly decreased volume of traffic in this incarnation of the Message Center

This appears to be a case of preference shaping perception, or you wouldn't have brought it up, but actual usage statistics do not support your hypothesis.

We do welcome most posts. But we do not (and can not) guarantee the community will accept any posts with open arms.

OK, here's one. The previous version of the MC used to send me an email when I had a PM from someone. How can I get that to happen now?

Here's another. How do I find my "sent messages"? I tried the pull-down menu to see if one actually went through, but there are no listings since September of last year.

If it's just something I've been too dumb to figure out, I'm willing to stay after school for remedial lessons, and to clean the erasers.

PS: Nice bun!

A. To receive emails from another member... On your Profile Page, on the left is a column called "Your control panel" under settings and options click on "Edit Options" and check "receive emails from other members".

A. To find "sent messages".... On Folder Inbox, arrow down to "sent items", highlight and click. Then, hit "go".

Hope this helps.

What a find! I just checked these two boxes, which seem to be exactly what I'm looking for.

The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.

✓Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages

When sending private messages the forum can make a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.

✓Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default

Thanks!

Seems my original thread and its spin-off turned out to be useful after all. ;)

I was happy for any interest in the flying community and I thank you for it.

If all the passengers and crew are either killed or hospitalized in serious condition, what's the expectation of a timely response? I'd think the survivirs would be concentraing on so many other things besides responding to a curious stranger.
