Well, context. Exaggeration of many kinds is a norm in advertising. Knowing that, when I read or watch an ad, I adjust accordingly. The very fact that we can joke about the age adjustment formula proves how widely understood, and adjusted for, this particular phenomenon is.

I think I heard if a ticket or boarding pass doesn't have a full

name and DOB, then the person will get pulled aside for a

I was reminded of this early this AM when I had to arrange some flight reservations for an escort who had told me he was in his 30's. I go to Southwest Airline's Website to make the reservation and "Lo and Behold"--in addition to wanting the full name of the passenger, the website also asked for the birthdate. So when I asked for and received the birthdate of the escort in question--turns out he is about 10 years older. Who knew that the new TSA rules would promote "truth in advertising"?

Ran in to this myself when booking a cruise a few years back with an escort. Same thing about 10 years older. And yes I agreed not to mention the age difference. LOL And why not, he looked the age that he said he was.

 

The gene pool and life factors are cruel masters. Folks can look younger or older then their years really are. But that is part of the attraction and fantasy sometimes in hiring or dating, especially for those of us that like "younger" guys.

You and I know how inaccurate the ads are, but someone hiring for the first time may get burned a few times before learning just how deceitful the ads are. I guess you think that's OK.

Would you like it if most supermarkets sold "one pound" packages that were several ounces short? You could try to take that into account but with each market making its own choice of just how deceitful they want to be, you end up in a murk where you really don't know what you're getting.

 

The ad is the first communication between escort and (potential) client. It doesn't seem to bother you to start right at the beginning with lies. All I can say is, not everyone feels that way.

 

Every now and then I see an ad that makes a point of saying the age is the actual age. That is a simple and honest way to avoid the whole morass.

I guess I put escort age stats into the same category as, say, the claim that a new detergent "cuts 40% more grease than other leading brands." A number, sure, but one understood to be approximate and directional rather than exact.

 

Of course, if the escort shows up, and is clearly and visibly a different age than stated, that's as good a ground as any other misrepresentation to send him packing.

Back when everyone dialed into AOL, didn't we used to refer to "AOL inches"? And maybe "AOL years," too?

 

The age posted by men on hookup and dating sites is something like the asking price on a car. You know you won't have to pay more than the sticker price, but what you actually pay may be far less. Someone's age? You know they are no younger than that, and probably a good bit older (and heavier). (Unless, as has been pointed out, they say they are 18 and then god only knows if they are 18 or not). So we all want to see pics, which we hope will be the actual person and taken fairly recently.

 

Why our culture is this way I don't know. Meanwhile, I've decided to relax and enjoy the mystery of it all. If my supposedly 26-year-old escort is really 31 but looks 25, that's fine with me.

In fact, I prefer masculine men and would hire an escort who looks and acts 31 over a 25 year-old any day. I've learned the hard way (pun intended) escorts in their 30's are almost always MORE physically developed, sexually experienced, self-confident, emotionally mature and well-rounded (in and out of bed). Beauty and age are in the eye of the beholder.
