I never went into this with the idea that money would define my success. That is becoming clearer now that I am making more. Odd, perhaps, but the more I make, the less I care about the cash. I am finding other substitutes to measure how well I am doing, but I am curious how you guys define success. When do you look in the mirror and say, "I am doing well."?

I would Say .....

A successful Escort is when you have regular clients, you enjoy what you do and you are able to save money. So, when you leave the Escorting Business you have enough cash and investments to do something else.

Maybe i am wrong, i am too young i am still learning .... :)

I know this is posted here in the Ask an Escort section but it is an interesting question that transcends career. How does one define success for himself as a person, as a professional, as a family member. I will keep my response here short and limited to professional success, but I am going to raise this question in another location in the forum and ask it in more general terms.

I think I am opposite of almost everyone I know in that money rarely played a role in my vision of success. I am a professional in a field in which many people are paid very well and have had numerous opportunities to take financially satisfying but professionally limited positions. I have always opted for challenging but relatively low paid position and until now, I have not regretted it. Now that retirement age comes close and financially things are as tight as they have usually been, I find myself less satisfied with having lead a socially conscious and morally upright professional life and more rueful of not taking opportunities which may have left me more flush financially.

I think I was arrogant in turning my nose up at the kind of financial success I might have had otherwise and a bit smug and short sighted in not realizing at some point I might prefer to not work as hard as I do in order to make ends meet. There is no going back. I hope that those with the similar opportunities will take the road which allows them to feel personally satisfied in their role in the world and more cognizant of the rapid approach of financial pressures one faces towards retirement. With the exception of my recent expenditures for escorts, which I have detailed in another thread, I have lead a financially responsible life. I pretty much have always had what I wanted materially because I have never wanted that much. i have never had significant credit card debt. I paid cash or quickly paid for everything I owned.

The government has never had to bail me out. So by and large, I feel I have been successful. Whether i will have a successful last quarter is another question.

Sounds like you are having regrets about choosing to have a "happy career" rather than an economically outstanding one. I don't blame you for having those doubts because that indicates that you are a thinking person. However, as a person in the same shoes, I can assure you that being happy and satisfied in what you have chosen to do is much more pleasing than any thing else you might have done. I am suspicious that many, if not most, folks are not happy and certainly not content with their choice of life occupations. I am so sorry for them. What is going on today in the US economy is not going to last forever. When it goes in the other direction, I am positive that you will once again be satisfied with your life choices. Satisfaction is often difficult to achieve. Happiness with life choices is even more difficult. Real contentment is all but unheard of.

You should be saluting yourself and I am willing to do so.

Best regards,

KMEM

I think it's a given that the desire to earn a good income is a big part of why most people, including escorts, do their jobs. But, as I look back upon my career, what has truly given me enduring fulfillment in my vocation, are those instances in which I've managed to genuinely connect with some of my clients and make a positive impact on their lives. When I've felt that their interface with me may have significantly enhanced their lives beyond mere ephemeral physical gratification. When I've felt I was able to contribute to their self-actualization, to help them to affirm their sense of self-worth, to strengthen their personal growth and happiness. This can also be a two-way street. When two people touch each other's lives for the better: that's success.

Well said, Mark. As one who has admired your profile for a long while, your thoughtful, well-composed, concise posting just made you even sexier in my book. Intelligence + Muscles + Respect = Sexy! Kudos Mark, you nailed it. Come to Chicago soon.;)

A stalking post. Sad.

Stalking? I may be sad but you're just plain nuts!

Pardon me for not trying to sound like Mother Teresa, as some of the posters have.

hmm

I agree...

IMHO, one is doing well when at the end of the month their bills are paid and they're still able to have some extra cash to do the things that interest them. Everything else is gravy. :)
