I'm not sure exactly what your objection is to the phrase--according to a couple of dictionaries that I consulted, dexterity can be exhibited with other parts of the body besides the hands. The sportscaster phrase talk that irritates me is the observation (which seems to have originated with the obnoxious Justin Gimelstob) that a tennis player is "very precise", which doesn't refer clearly to anything that a tennis player might do.

I am not sure I have an objection so much as an observation. I am certainly used to inane and incorrect speech from sportscasters after years of listening to them. We all make mistakes in the use or definition of various words; sportscasters just seem to take that to a higher level. Generally, I support the idea that dexterity means hand, eye (and finger) co-ordination. In this case a player had just caught a difficult pass, but not with his feet, mouth, legs, head, neck and shoulder combination but with his hands (as is usual). :) The remark just struck me as odd, plus, as you noted, there are many such phrases. This time of year we are winding down MLB, in the middle of FB and BB will be starting in a week or so. With so much coverage required, there are bound to be many not so elequent new as well as old standards likely to be used soon.

Thanks for posting.

Just a few minutes ago watching men's figure skating:

"because that jump came after the second half, it'll get an extra 10%

Ummm.... *during* the 2nd half? *IN* the 2nd half?

After the 2nd half would be in the locker room .

Would you take offense at being characterized as off eating spaghetti or sauerkraut or potatoes? I suppose the "intent" of the comment or commenter would have something to do with how you feel. Personally, I like most every kind of food, just don't forget to call me to dinner or supper or whatever you call it. :)

One of my straight Latino friends refers to going out for tacos as performing oral sex on his wife. ;)

A jump in the locker room would be worth watching but probably won't make it to your TV screen.
