That 's hilarious but only to the narrow segment that understands the nature of Onion's satire. That satire is magnified by marrying two real dangers to the gay community, smoking and the gay baiting that seems unabated amongst teenagers. (Yes, I specifically chose the word "marrying" - my own form or irony?)

Hmmm...maybe its me, but when I read this and watched the video and then heard from the man who produced it my reaction was anger.

 

Be gentle on me guys since I am still a newbie on here but what good can come out of using words like "homo" or "faggot" to help young people stop smoking?

 

It seems to me that the ad campaign is saying one bad will lead to another worse, which is being gay. Therefore being gay is bad?

 

I don't know the tone of Onion so maybe I am missing something...but my gut reaction was to feel very uncomfortable with this new campaign.

Read several more of the Onion stories and look at its other videos. You will see that it's all satire. If this video were real life you'd have a basis for getting mad, but it's not. Satire is not for everyone, but if you don't find it funny, at least recognize that they were trying to make a joke.

I don't find offensive but rather clever as fag/faggot is a recognized slang word for cigarette.

Ya know for a long time I was nervous to post on here but one thing I have quickly come to realize is that there are a helluva lot of nice guys on here with a good balance between their hearts and their minds.

 

I had never heard of Onion before so when I first saw the ad I was incredulous at what I had heard. Had I done a tad of homework I would have found that it was a satirical web page....and one that I just spent a good deal of time watching and laughing.

 

Thanks guys...it is always nice to have people help you turn anger into laughter.

I'm glad that you ended up seeing the humour. I think it speaks to The Onion's satirical abilities that this particular ad seemed so close to being "real" that you might actually think it was true.

 

As for good things coming from 'Jersey'....here's one that I think is unique to Canada
