After seeing and reading reviews about two of the hottest escorts of late-- both from Houston, TX, I am seriously thinking about visiting this city during the latter part of June. I've never been to this sprawling city, so I know NOTHING. Where would you suggest that I lodge? I want a medium priced hotel room that's comfortable and has some sort of ambience. I don't know about any of the areas in this city.

...went to Hotels.com and DiscountHotels.com, but I felt as if I were reading a foreign menu.

Besides my seeing three escorts (have yet to make specific arrangements), I'd like to take in some other entertainment, too-- theatre-- something musical--,,, I'd appreciate answers to my queries-- right now I'm perplexed. Suggestions are the order of the day!!

Come On Down

There is a wonderful and exotic Bed and Breakfast called the Lovett Inn in the heart of the Montrose (Houston's Gay Area) near the museum district; near the theater district; in close proximity to at least thirty world class restaurants.

Check this site: http://www.lovettinn.com/index.htm

This is the home of one of Houston's earliest mayors and is restored beautifully. The landscaping is breathtaking and the genteel nature of the staff will have you trying to schedule a longer stay.

The new Hobby Center For Performing Arts was dedicated last week and is the home of Theater Under the Stars. They are bringing Lion King; Some Like it Hot and an Original Musical based on Whatever Happened to Baby Jane to Houston. I know . . . I worry about that one too. Houston has the second largest number of theater seats in the world. Only NYC has more.

If you need further assistance please ask as I never tire of trumpeting all the things there are to love about my home town. One last tidbit. . . Houston is home to Kristian, Athan, Christopher and Tony Ryan. need I say more?

I second HB's suggestion of the Lovett Inn. Do not get it confused with the Montrose Inn. That is located well, but I just don't get a good feeling from its advertising and from the fact that it's run by an old employer of mine in the building that used to be the newspaper office I worked for him in.

Believe it or not, some of our theaters haven't announced their next season's offerings yet. But if you have an exact sense of what weekend you will be here, it would be my pleasure to try to post here just exactly what all will be playing while you're here. Perhaps many people will be surprised at the great number and variety of choices available. All the way from Naked Boys Singing (a new version with a bunch of new songs) to grand opera. (Because of 9/11 and our flooding here, BTW, Houston Grand Opera is having a season next year of more light hearted stories than usual, trying to win back the crowds. They'll be doing The Merry Widow and what I think is a premiere of an opera based on St. Euxperry's The Little Prince, for example.)

Naked Boys Singing? Do tell - what is this all about? A brief description is in order - should I schedule a Houston visit when they are playing???

I too recommend the Lovett Inn. I just spent 5 days there, I stayed in the townhouses behind the Inn. They are now part of the Lovett complex. The stay was great, good restaurants and clubs are very close. Kristian and Athan were great also, they too are highly recommended!! You won't be disappointed.

How disappointing that they're not naked in the clips! x(

Saw this show twice in NYC. It's a lot of fun, and they eye candy is great! }> It'll never be considered great theater, but it's definitely a fun time.

Lovett Inn is fine, if you can book one of the apartment style rooms in the rear garden. Otherwise, you privacy is compromised by the fact that guest rooms in the main house are not soundproofed, and it is possible to hear just about anything from the hallways. Also, guests tend to be a bit poofy and likely to enjoy speculating about your guests. When I visit Houston, I tend to pig out on both escorts and street trade, which is great in H-town with 2 or 3 hustler bars operating. I stay in a 2 room suite at the Best Western Greenway Plaza. The rate is usally under $100 for a living room bedroom suite. There is nothing fancy about the place, but it is well located on SW Freeway near Sheppard. Everything gay (the Montrose) and everything cultural (musuem district, downtown arts center) is juat a mile or two away. I like this place because it is clean and safe, but most important for me is the fact that I can come and go as I please without any real scrutiny from staff or guests. I also like to get into SM scenes, which can be noisy. The constant buzz from 10 lanes of SW Freeway traffic streaming past 24 hours a day guarantees privacy, and believe it or not it helps me to sleep soundly by providing a kind of "white noise". The place is not the Ritz, but it gets the job done. Check out all the cool things on the St. Thomas campus (Rothko, the Deminil (sp?) Museum, and the Byzantine chapel). Also the Fine Arts Museum is certainly worth a peek. Lots of great places to eat nearby in the Montrose/Westheimer area. Houston is cool. It gets a bad rap generally, but it is a great American city and worth visiting with an open mind.
