It's supposed to be Sunday night baseball, but on ESPN the Yankees versus Red Sox game is more like watching the view with a baseball game going on in the background. These guys seem to be doing everything but watching the game. They have an interview with former great Luis Tiant, so they show film clips in between pitches of his career, and then the camera goes to the announcers rather than on the field. It's a talk show, not a baseball game!

It's maddening. I hate ESPN. I wanted to watch the baseball game.

Vent complete.

All Talk, Little Baseball

I was annoyed by the Luis Tiant gab fest also, and eventually turned the game off. Tiant's story about finally returning to his native Cuba was interesting, but reliving the Red Sox-Reds World Series from the 1970s with Joe Morgan and Tiant was probably too much for even fans of the two teams involved.

It isn't just ESPN, Fox did the same thing with President Obama

in St. Louis during the All Star game. How often did we need to hear that Obama spent most of his visiting the clubhouses time talking to Albert Pujols? And I like Obama and Pujols (and Tiant).

Fuck the talk. Back to back homers put the Yanks back into the the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Die, Boston, die!

Dink single drives in two more even as I type. 5/2 Yanks! And another hit! All with 2 out. Aww, an infield out. Yankees gonna sweep a 4 game series with the Red Sox. Who would have believed it?

Even the ESPN announcers had to pay attention to the game in the eighth. It didn't shut them up, but at least it wasn't all about them.

I Don't Belive it Either

I not only believed it but backed my opinion with 4 small wagers.

I'm a NL Fan, so I really do not care about the Yankees and Red Sox.

But, I don't believe you bet on a Yankee sweep either. No hard feeling, just do not believe it.

Blah, Blah, Blah

Yeah , the guys on ESPN just go on and on and it's frusrtrating to hear Steve Phillips and not see him.I much prefer YES doing it. At least I can enjoy an occosional shot of hottie Paul O'Neil plus he knows his baseball!

Isn't it funny how the same words mean different things to different people? I never even considered that I was implying that I had bet on a sweep. I mentioned 4 small wagers, which, to me, suggested I thought the NYY could win each game and as the series progressed I became optimistic that there could be a sweep, but never bet on it.

I was partly relying on the ongoing feud and the fact that the NYY would be caring a special grudge from losing the prior 8 games in a row. However, emotions don't win ball games by themselves, they are just a plus.

Best regards,

KMEM

I watch lots of televised sports, and I find that most of the commentary, whatever network or sport, is banal and unnecessary--it's mostly the commentators trying to show off their expertise and inside knowledge, whether it's baseball, football, tennis, golf or even volleyball. In other words, they are trying to justify their jobs. To me, the worst of all is Vin Scully of the Dodgers, who never stops talking for a second.
