Recently an amateur astronomer noticed a huge blemish on the planet Jupiter, probably caused by a comet or an asteroid. But it seems suspicious that our own government astronomers missed this- or did they?

Speculation has now arisen that the blemish is not an accident of nature, but rather a test shot of a new graviton wave weapon that the government wants kept secret. If perfected, the new graviton wave weapon could make the idea of nuclear war seem to be child's play. The fact that they destroyed a huge portion of the large planet could indicate that the weapon is now ready, but panic would ensue if the masses learned of the danger.

I learned all of this by rigorously searching through the comment section in a San Francisco newspaper's website. There you will see a comment by a someone known only as jojo999, believed to be the name of an alien from outer space with information on the new weapon. Here is the whole of his (its?) statement

"The mark was caused by aliens testing out a new graviton wave weapon before they use it on Earth. The end is near! ” by jojo999"

A NASA scientist, Glenn Orton, is quoted as follows:

The near-infrared image reveals an odd blemish with a bright center, and debris northwest of the impact site. "It could be the impact of a comet, but we don't know for sure yet," Orton said. A similar impact on Earth would cause widespread devastation on a global scale."

Simultaneous with my release of this information, our latest member became known. His handle? It is bf96c55x379c87. Coincidence? I sure hope so. He has not yet asked to be taken to our leader.

It could be. Another thing to consider: We don't really know what happened to Nero's ship after the Enterprise bombarded it into the black hole. It could have ended up in our time and caused the "scar" on Jupiter.

Well...anything is possible.

But I'd be more concerned that Captain Jack really did not destroy The 456 and they will be back for 50% of earth's children next time.

We...are...coming...again!!

I wondered if anyone was watching this show. I thought it was extremely well-done, and the last 2 episodes were harrowing!

Looking forward to "Being Human": the premise seems a bit lame, but the Brits just might pull it off!

If you like being scared by space threats, hypothetical aliens and their weapons can't hold a candle to the certainty of big Earth-impacting objects. Just like those that apparently slam Jupiter from time to time.

It makes for an exciting time...

hmm

Sounds like a bad science fiction to me. Jupiter has not been researched well enough to do an experiment such as this.

It cannot have been a gravitation wave weapon, Jupiter is a gass giant planet, hitting it with a gravitation wave weapon would likely cause it to contract and subsequently spark a fusion reation that would turn it into a starlike object. Did you not see 2010 Space Odyssey? "Leave Europa Alone!"

According to a news story on TV, that "blemish" is supposed to be the size of Earth. That's quite a big blemish. They also said it was a hole. I assume they meant a very deep crater.

Pure science fiction... Jupiter's gravitation field and pull is much larger than what we will ever see on Earth which is why the large gas planet receives most of the major direct hits from comments and asteroids from the outer ring belt. This would make more logical sense compared to a "gravitational weapon" but sounds like a good idea for the next summer blockbuster movie in 2010. ;)
