This morning I sw the movie Every Little Step about the making of the revival of A Chorus Line. It sucks. Lots of snippets of girls auditioning, a couple of the boys, but you'd think the show was all about the girls. A real waste of time unless you are a girl who wants to relive the auditioning experience.

I agree, not the documentary fans of the show would have hoped for. The documentary focuses too much on the casting for the recent Broadway revival and not on the creation of the original production, and the original stories the show is based on. A big disappointment!!!

"Grey Gardens" on HBO

Speaking of movies, did anyone see "Grey Gardens" on HBO? I have it recorded but I haven't watched it yet. It got great reviews. I saw the broadway musical and it was amazing. Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore are perfectly cast in this movie. I can't wait to see it.

I saw it and the story, as in the documentary, was compelling. I think the two stars did admirably. Considering the original material was a documentary, it would have been easy to go over the top as the women in the documentary did in their real lives. I think both stars retained the eccentricity without overdoing it.

I did see another movie in New York that I liked. It was Il Divo, about the seven-term Italian prime minister Giulio Andreotti. He was a godfather-type leader, accused of Mafia ties and in deep with the Catholic Church. Over 200 murders are attributed to his doings, along with over 800 injuries.

The review in the NY Times got me to see the movie. They are right that it will be hard for American audiences to follow, not knowing all of the characters. But just as a study in corruption it is fascinating, with the assassination scenes carrying a heft of their own. Here's the review:

Il Divo also got good reviews in the LA Times.

Now, am I the only one who saw 17Again or just the only one willing to admit it?
