My best friend has passed

I got news today from my mother that my best friend of 20 years has passed away. She has battled lung cancer for the last year. she had radiation about 6 months ago and told most of us things were fine. Apparently that wasn't true. I found out about a month ago that her lungs were only at about 20% capacity. She was a 2 pack a day smoker A habit she picked up at the age of 15. She went 2 weeks ago and bought herself a nice dress I know now its the dress she wanted to be buried in. She leaves behind 5 children...

I think I understand how you feel. I lost one of my 2 closest friends 4 years ago (sometimes it seems only last year!) after a rapid decline in health which she partially hid from most of us.. Celebrate the good times!

Hey guy. I'm very sorry to hear about your loss as any death is something that as humans, we're not built to understand or fully accept. My heart and thoughts go out to her family, children and YOU whom all will miss her very much but also carry on her memory and immortalize her in your thoughts and dreams.

My prayers and sympathy go out to you. I lost my best friend six months ago, the support of family and friends has seen me through it and I am sure that your friends will help you. Always remember the good times. My hope is that the five children are of an age that they can care for themselves and that there is a strong support group for them.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a friend who has shared so much of your life is like losing part of yourself. You have lost your witness, someone to attest to oddities and idiosynchracies of your life and someone to add details to your own familiar memories seen from another point of view. How many times did she add that extra bit of flavor to a particular juicy story? I know these are some of the things that I miss most about my best friend who, I lost about 5 years ago, after a 40 year frienship, though he lives about 50 minutes away.

Condolences of course but also words of advice your pastor is unlikely to provide:

 

In mourning, a tear is like a fart

 

It's a perfectly natural bodily function

 

It's likely to occur at any moment, usually without warning.

 

There's nothing you can really do about it.

 

Any friend who appears to be offended by it, is a friend you don't need to keep.
