Hey guys. I always find this board helpful when I am traveling. I have the chance to make an almost free trip to South Beach in a couple weeks, for a few days. I live in Canada. Can anyone give me some tips on:

- where to meet guys (escorts as well as regular guys)

- are there any strip clubs?

- is it fairly easy to get around the area on foot and/or public transport?

Thanks in advance!

- Terry

I found SoBe to be very shallow and if either one did not have the $$$ or the roid pumped body one was invisible. Strip clubs? Can't speak of that. Getting around? There are shuttles that can take you to your hotel or you can get a town car to take you to your abode. I didn't stray too far from the beach and found that most everything was pretty walkable. I did take the bus one afternoon to some fancy mall to get a little bling for the Madonna concert I was attending and found it to be pretty easy but that was the extent of all that. There are plenty of cabs from what I remember but being tourist I'd be on guard when taking one. Hope this helps a little bit.

Hugs,

Greg

Here's some advice from another Canadian. It's been a couple of years since I stayed in SOBE for a vacation and before that I knew it fairly well from living in North Miami Beach for a period. SOBE is eminently walkable, in fact having a rental car is a drag since parking is either scarce or exhorbitant in price. For a short vacation , you have everything you need in SOBE, although as Greg pointed out, it is expensive and it doesn't feel as gay as it used to in the '90's since with success, the straights moved in.

The only stripper bar I frequented there was at Twist, on Washington Ave and that was only on certain nights and in the back "bungalow" as it was called. Lincoln Mall also had a bar that featured go-go boys some nights but can't say whether that still exists.

You will have a wide range of eateries from the casual to the expensive to choose from. If you want something a little unusual, try the oldest Cuban restaurant on Collins Ave at 5th which is 1950's authentic and cheap (the name escapes me but it's on the west side just up from 5th).

The gay beach is hard to miss, it's around 12th, just opposite from the old Versace mansion on Ocean Blvd.

Gay escorts are listed weekly in Hotspots and there are many to chose from in SOBE or Miami. Since the season is winding down, there may be fewer visiting escorts from NYC and other northern cities although they abound during the winter months.

SOBE never goes to sleep and I always felt safe there at night walking around but exercise the usual caution. Given the hard times, there are probably more scammers and conmen than before.

Have fun and hope the weather is good.

The strip club on Lincoln Mall is "Score". It is still there but I have never been there. It can be a long walk from your hotel at night.

I also want to add that I hope you are not visiting towards the end of August. That was when I was there and the hurricanes were out by Cuba and the Caribbean, about a week away from hitting Florida. I experienced a lot of rain and storms the last couple of days I was there that if I went out to do much it was very limited distance wise due to the rain and high water in the streets.

Hugs,

Greg

SOBE is not that big. It starts at about 1st St and ends at about 20th St, so if you are staying in that vicinity, everything is within walking distance. If your elsewhere in Miami Beach, you may wish to rent a car or take a taxi.

Twist, located on Washington Avenue (around 8th St), and Score, located on Lincoln Road (around 15th St), are the two primary clubs in SOBE. Both have strippers/go-go boys. Check the websites for more info. Both will have free local gay guides available, so if you go, pick up a gay guide and see what else is available in Miami. The back of the magazine usually has a number of ads for bodyworkers and escorts.

If you're headed to SOBE in the next few weeks, the weather should be warm and sunny. Hurricane season begins in June but the height of the season is not till September. Florida is experiencing a severe drought, so there has been little to no rainfall, and local brush fires have been cropping up throughtout the state.

Enjoy.
