Question: Will a Google search on a phone number bring up all past online history for that number or just current places it appears on the Internet? In other words, if I change my phone number, will the old number still pull up past uses if a search is done on it?

I don't think it's real clear how often google culls its outdated links. I just searched for my old SF number and lo, my current website comes up (even though that number hasn't been given on the site for over three years now). Worse yet, the are these archive sites that allow you to search back-versions of websites (it's really fun to look at older versions of rentboy, for example). So even if the data drops out of google, someone with enough motivation may still be able to find something from other search engines.

 

I think the upshot is that once it gets out on the net, you can never be sure it's out of the public domain. All kneel before Big Brother.

If you change your phone number and someone googles it, it is very likely that google will display some ads that used to have your old number. For example, I googled an escort's phone number because I could no longer locate his ad. One of the results was for an M4RN ad that displayed his current phone number. Also displayed were two different Rentboy ads, one that was inactive and another with the current phone number. Craigslist ads also come up in google searches long after they have expired or been pulled.

A Google search won't bring up ALL history of the number, necessarily. If it was never online, Google won't have anything to show.

 

But as the others have said, if it's online it is permanent. Even if you manage to purge Google's cache, and you manage to trick the Way-Back-Machine, some queen somewhere will have a screen shot and be all too willing to share it.

 

Once you put something online, it is permanent.
